Water dripping from Exhaust pipes...HELPPPP!!

Hey guys,

So last night as I worked on changing my bumper, I was doing a inspection of the underside of the car and realized that I had water dripping from the mid section of my exhaust. It is right were the X pipe connects to the pipes coming from the headers. I took a look at it and the pipes at that connection are rusting pretty bad. is this normal?? if there is water dripping out, isnt there also air leaking out??? Do I just need to make the connection tighter to make sure no water comes out??? what got me is that it was a lot of water in a matter of 3 hrs or so.

Any advice would be appreciate it,

Looking at the pics I can tell that the exhaust clamps aren't tight enough. Also, do you have a catch can installed?

Water is a by-product of combustion, this is normal tighten your clamps and drive your car. I suspect you let it idle alot too.

condensation in the exhaust pipe. When you drive your car the exhaust gets hot as it cools the air condensates and collects in the pipes. If you drive only short distances you might let the exhaust get hot, but not evaporate all the water that was already in the pipes. Try some longer drives to get the pipes hot for a while (30 min at least) then see what it looks like. Being in DE I would bet it's still pretty cool at night too so that will make it worse.

My car is terrible for this too. It leaks at the clamps where my SLP axle back exhaust connects. The clamps are tight but it still leaks. I have had mine stored for the last 5 or so months. Upon changing my oil a few weeks back (put the car on front ramps) the car left a relatively large puddle on the floor, not much different than in your pictures. It happens, no concerns at all. Just like others have said, its condensation. Mine is particularly bad because I start my car through the storage time and let it run for 15 mins. the exhaust doesn't get very hot so the water continues to accumulate in the exhaust. Nothing a good run wont fix, when I put it on the road in a few weeks.

Perfectly normal byproduct of internal combustion. If you are terrible worried about it drill a small hole in the low point of you exhaust system or right where you see the water and install a small sheet metal screw. When you park your car remove the screw the water will drain out easily and won't collect in your pipes.

You do know that's the worst thing you can do with a stored car right??
