1/4 mile time might not be as good as everyone hopes

ok, now I am starting to think that te Camaro SS will not be all that fast, maybe low 13's at best, because the freaking G8 GXP ran a best of 13.3 when Motortrend(yeah I know, I know) did it's test on it. But then again there are quite a few people with minimal mods and a tune running 12's with the G8 GT. I dunno, it just makes me think that the Challenger adn Mustang will be about dead even with it, and what is For decides to drop 400+ in the Mustang, the new GT runs 13.3 as well.

Isn't the G8 GXP heavier than the Camaro?

The 6-speed GXP is 3980 lbs, while the 6-speed SS is supposedly 3860.

Car And Driver also got 13.3 @ 109 mph from the GXP, so that matches Motor Trend's numbers.

So there is a ~ 100 lb weight difference, and possibly a gear ratio difference, so it is possible the SS could do the 1/4 mile in the high 12s.

GXPs can be ordered with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission and SRT8s can't. Both our test cars, however, had automatics, five speeds in the Dodge, six for the Pontiac. Each has manual-select gates and we still prefer the Dodge's left-right gear selector over the Pontiac's fore-aft system. Then again, the Pontiac's automatic is more in tune with the driver, matching revs on downshifts.

Running through those gears, the G8 just barely beat the Charger, the score in seconds to 60 mph being Pontiac 4.7, Dodge 4.9. The margin slimmed to 0.1 sec. though the quarter-mile, the Pontiac running 13.1 sec. at 109.4 mph, the Dodge 13.2 at 108.8. While the LS3 does its work with a strong, healthy exhaust sound, the rumble of the Hemi is enough to make any V-8 lover weak in the knees.

Maybe R&T are just better drivers?

But....

The G8 seems more aerodynamic than the Camaro

and out of the three, ( and this is very unbiased here) The challenger seem to be more aerodyanmic than the Mustang and Camaro

I though for the GXP you could just use "performance mode" and it would make the shifting quicker, harder, and later on the rpms to take out human error.

Also the GXP doesn't have the half-shaft improvements to allow for better, smoother launches.

I have watched this site for over a year now and i finally couldnt stand it and had to join so i could post.....I have had 6 mustangs in the past anywhere from my wifes stock convertible to my 10 second mustang....the GXP is running 109 mph with an auto..the 6 speed version should be about 111 at least 2mph faster....anyway my point is i have tons of 1/4 mile passes at 11.9-12.2 at 110mph....so the new camaro with drag radials with 1.8 60's will run deep into the 12's at probably 110-112 mph.....with some drivers getting into the 11's stock

11's stock, no way in hell, even with drag radials.

doessnt matter if its stock or not i am looking at the MPH?????
you have a 1998 camaro?
my wife's 2001 camaro with paper tags on it ran 13.3 at 106???
with a lid and k&n filter it ran 13.0's 107??? with automatic
at the time my friends 2001 trans am with 6 speed stock ran 12.4 at 110????
have you ever raced? i use to race for points at houston raceway park every sunday and i race jack pot almost every wednesday...i know maybe a little about racing....look at the mph...btw for those looking at the auto my wife's auto with full exhaust, kn filter and lid, and torque convertor was running 11.70's at 115...so the auto is not a bad choice....now i grant you most people will be running low 13's with 2.1-2.2 60's but people who know how to 60 in the 1.75-1.9 will run much better

BTW the new record for fastest stock ls1 is 10.65 at 122 mph....you can even see it on 5thgen.com i think....record for the fastest 5.0 1993 rated at 205 hp mustang back in the day was 11.70 at i think 117 mph....granted these cars get to use slicks and suspension mods.....just to show the ls3 is a superior engine to the ls1.....there was a couple of guys with 05-09 mustangs with just a few bolt-ons running low 12's at 108 mph on drag radials two sundays ago at houston raceway park.
