I go to neutral and use the brakes and never use a downshift to slow down. I figure brake pads are cheaper to replace than to put unecessary wear on the trans. I could have a misunderstanding of this though.

I do half of each. I start down shifting a gear or two before I decide to throw it into neutral and use the brakes for the remaining distance.

I pull off into one of those runaway truck pits with the deep sand. Works everytime...

I usually downshift, using double clutching and heel and toeing.
On track, I add a little left foot braking too... |

When I drive a manual I throw in neutral to slow down and use the brakes. This is interesting. So is there any CONS to either or???

I do both. Neutral saves gas. Downshifting sounds better and you get the decel pops in each gear .

Yep. I downshift all the time when I'm on manual mode. Love decel pop.

Depends on the conditions. I'll do 6th to 4th and 5th to 3rd sometimes, and then I slow the car down in gear with the brakes until the RPM's hit about 1000-1200 and then I clutch-in.
And if I want to make noise, a downshift into 2nd always makes a lot of nice popping. |

Gas is overrated anyways. I wouldn't even use it if my car didn't need it
