ZL1 fuel pump question
I may be replacing my axles because of a potential problem with them, figured while that work is being done, if it needs to be done, I will also upgrade the driveshaft and also replace the fuel pump so that I can be ready for any power upgrade down the road. Just in an attempt to save on some labor cost since they will be in there anyway.
My question is about the fuel pump to get. My car is a 100% street car, even if I rebuild or replace my engine, I do not think I will ever be pushing things harder then around 700-750 WRHP at the very most. I already have an MSD volt booster. My question is will the GM ZL1 fuel pump with the booster safely support this level of power? The cost of this item makes it REALLY attractive compared to the higher dollar pumps. If it will work well, I will go that way, if its questionable, obviously its wiser to spend more to be safe. Just curious what power level the ZL1 pump with MSD BAP will support safely?

I'm at 740whp ZL1 Pump/ADM FPCM, BAP, Meth. I don't see any FP drop at WOT. Anything more your pushing it. I'm running a 1 gallon dedicated fuel cell for the 100shot on top.

I have a ADM FPCM that is brand new never opened. I put a ZL1 pump in a couple of months ago and was told I should get it. I'm trading my Camaro in tomorrow on a 2013 60th anniversary Z06 Corvette. Make me a offer.. I think I paid around $200.00 for it. I will look at the paper work tomorrow.. PM me if interested..

I am at at 638 rwhp on my ZL1 pump with no BAP or ADM FPCM. I hold right at 58 psi on my logs all the way to 6600 rpm. I was going to get the ADM FPCM but the tuner said not to it was not needed yet. As there is no pressure drop and the injectors are at 80%+\-.
And just a thought. I am useing a centrifugal supercharger so my power is easer to control. But I will tell ya a 600rwhp street car is a Rocket that will take you straight to the scene of the accident. And the PD Maggie's are worse. You would not think going from 500 to 600+ would be much of a difference but it is on the street. Not saying it not fun lol. |

just got dynoed on thursday and pulled 622whp with no pressure drop at all. Also ZL1 + ADM FPCM.
For the cost of it at $200, its cheaper than any boost a pump out there and its programmed right into the the tune. You really can't beat that.

Like others have said, if you're getting the ZL1 pump you're good to about 625-650 RWHP, add the ADM FPCM and you'll have no problems at all. Then you just need some ID 850 injectors.

You say no pressure drop, what was it holding at thru the pull?

I dont think that gauge is fast enough to give a good reading. At .38 in the video it showed 54.4, -12.18 boost. That reading was more then likely when you hit 9psi. It showed you didn't hit full boost till the top of the gear. I would hope a centrifugal SC hits full boost faster then that. Not saying your FP is not holding good. Just don't think that gauge is a good way to log it. Reminds me of logging with Torque for the iphone. It only got bits and pieces of data from a run. It would take it 1500+ rpm before it would record new data. |

Think I am leaning away from the ADM-ZL1 combo and going to save up for the LPE dual pump system. Just to make sure there is no way I will outgrow it as I have not decided yet what I will do for sure for an engine upgrade.
Want to replace the fuel pump only once, its about a $500 bill with my shop to change out fuel pumps so want to do this one time only!!! Believe the LPE will allow me to do pretty much whatever I want for a practical high performance street car application.

I AGREE !!!! That's the route I am going. YSI will be going on my car next week. I will go with LPE and be done with it the first time.

Stock L99, ECS kit at 12 psi, LT headers no cats, ID850 injectors, I was seeing pressure down in the upper 40's on a cold day when it was really making power. Warmer days pressure held ok. That was with ZL1 pump and ADM FPCM, and tuned for the ADM FPCM, 6200 rpm shift.
I must add, it was prettymuch ok through a 1 gear pull but on a 1/4 mile pull FP dropped. Would have looked ok on a dyno pull. I since added a MSD BAP feeding the ADM FPCM and have 63 to 65 psi even on a 100 shot of nitrous and 12 psi. MSD BAP really does alot feeding the ADM and ZL1 combo. Some said it wouldn't help alot but I found it did.
