That is what got most engines in trouble in the first place.
The fact that PieNsky has 115,000 with no issues tells me the chains must be a weak design with process variation going on. Some fail, some do not.
My Chevy dealer Tech's said they don't see any timing chain issues on the Camaro and there certainly not teams dedicated to doing timing chains all day long.
I called my dealer yesterday and they said the same thing. Makes me wonder if they are just telling us what we want to hear. BTW Amsoil is about $1 more a quart on average but is pretty much the same if you get an Amsoil membership which I think is 10-15 bucks a year

$1 more a qt, where is that? You can get 6qt's of Mobil 1 at Dumpmart for $31, where are you finding 6qt of Amsoil for $37?

So how sluggish does it get when it goes bad? Is it noticeable? Also are guys with headers and mods having this replaced under warranty?

I know the wife's MPG went down! She started complaining about that before the CEL came on....

In theory mods really shouldn't be an problem since this issue is so well documented... however there will always be some dealership that will try to give you grief!

Some answers:

1. Yes, the performance lag was absolutely and dramatically noticable.
2. Yes, covered under warranty - note I have a Trifecta Tune but flashed back to factory before taking it in - no mention of this by dealer.

Also, service tech noted that the car has, in fact, three timing chains and that when they went to replace one of them it had stretched to the point the cam spacer had moved 1/8 to 1/4" - don't know what that means, exactly, but it sounds like it was a d**n good thing I took it in.

Just FYI. I just got the check engine light today. Hoping it's not the timing chain issue.

I just got the P0008 code on my car. I have about 63k.
Has this been a covered issue by GM?

Timing chain possibly. If I am not mistaken. Should be under a special 120k or so warranty for the LLT equipped motors. Call your dealer and see what the down low is.

I think having the supercharger blows my warranty chance out of the water. I went to a shop today that quoted me 1800.00 and 3-4 days.

I would still contact Gerry at Rodgers Chevrolet and discuss the matter with him. I know you have a supercharger, but you are not the first to have this issue. There were others stock and modified that have had the chain issue too. Before dropping $1800. It would be worth a phone call.

I called my dealer and made an appointment. I dropped off the Mistress at Bud Kouts Chevrolet in Lansing yesterday where I bought her. They are going to diagnose and evaluate what they can do for me. I hope I can get positive news.

Be sure to let us know how everything went at the dealership, and if further assistance is needed! We would be happy to help. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

I received word from But Kouts, my dealer about the timing chain. The news is very good. They will cover the timing chain replacement under warranty. The'll charge me about 4hrs labor to work around the supercharger, but I'm okay with that.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised and grateful to Bud Kouts and GM for their consideration.
