JBA or Solo cats??
Just looking for feedback on which one seems to be better? I know most folks will have not experience with both but just trying to figure out if the extra $200 for the Solos are worth it. By the way I have an L99 (which does not seem to matter for the JBAs since they do not have the flex pipe....confused about that).
Before the "Get LTs and a tune" comments start, I know LTs give more performance. I will be getting a tune with the HFCs but not the LTs. For how I enjoy the car, the added $$ for the LTs is not worth it. Just my preference. Thanks! |

You can get some Texas Speed headers with off-road connecting pipes for less than the Solo midpipes... although they're out of stock for a couple weeks it looks like.
http://texas-speed.com/p-2168-texas-...ro-ss-62l.aspx EDIT Aside from that, I've only tried the Solo's. If I were to do it again I would try the JBA midpipes. I didn't see anything that special about the Solo ones.

Yes, Texas speed does have good prices on LTs but I would want the HF cats and not the offroad pipe which would increase the $$$. Plus, I want to do the work but don't have a lift or stands high enough. Also, after compiling all of the dyno info on this site into a spreadsheet and averaging the gains, it just is not worth the trouble for me. I will have an easier time with the cats and get enough HP and sound for how I use the car. thanks for the Solo input.

Solos are great. Might want to see if you can get a set of used ones on this forum for a cheaper price.

I attached the file as a pdf. I could not save it as an image. The numbers come from the L99 Dyno sticky. I have been struggling with figuring out which way to go - headers and HF cats or HF cats alone. I decided that I was going to do a tune regardless of what I chose. Like I said on another reply, I get a lot of enjoyment out of doing the work myself but I did not have all the tools to do the headers and I am not paying a shop to do the install. I don't mind spending the money but, it just needs to make sense to me. That's when I decided to do these averages. Averaging the stock RWHP and RWTQ along with the other two groupings you will see made it clear to me that it was simply not worth going with the LTs.
Hopefully anyone that reads this will see that I realize that the numbers on the L99 Dyno sticky have a lot of variations; brand of CAI, dyno vs mail order tune, who did the tune, different brand headers, TBs or no TBs, air temperature, humidity, brand of dyno, etc., etc. However, I do think the averages give a decent general comparison of stock vs. slight mods vs more mods; and I tried to group "like mods" to get averages that made sense. Having said all of that, I know some will find a flaw with my approach but, it works for me. I hope others will find it helpful too. That's why most of us are on this site. The mods we do to our cars are a reflection of us; how we use the car, what we like, and the "just cause we can" factor. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach. If there was, SEMA wouldn't exist. |

I just got a set of Solo HFC's for my L99 last week and will be installing them on Sunday. I think that they are the way to go retain the warranty in lieu of LT w/ tune. I thought about the JBA HFC but CEL's would be a bother to correct and the solo's have a good reputation for preventing them.
I emailed SOLO about the flex pipe-GOINGSOLO2-Steve got back to me almost instantly. Originally Posted by Titan I am curious what the difference between the LS3 Cats and the L99 cats are? The automatic HF cats have a flex pipe in it that is needed with the automatic engine. Engine vibration is worse with the auto, therefore it is necessary. |

We carry both have had less cels with the Solo high flow cats. It's nice that they have a seperate system for the L99 with the flex pipe, as the factory L99s do. They both fit great and come with 200 cell cats so the performance is dead on.

I Have the JBA Highflow Mids I made 393RWHp with fastlane cold air intake only . Best bang for the buck in my opinion sounds great. Maryland speed had the best price. I was in the same boat as you mid pipes then later on Longtubes .
