Western Michigan University installs Prius/Volt Charging Stations!?

http://www.ceas.wmich.edu/PHEVData/PHEV/

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences have been doing this since I graduated and it looks like they've got some tangible results in the installation of this thing at the CEAS West Parking Deck..

For those "It's just a Prius.." balkers.. do you REALLY thing GM was going to give WMU a pre-pro (w/ proprietary info) VOLT? Nah.. just go buy a Prius and f'k it up.

Gotta love my Alma Mater.. now we just need PHEAs- Plug In Electric Airplanes for the College of Aviation. Hmm.. *rushes off to patent office*

The Volt is already being sold to the public. Although considering it's sales numbers I can see how you didn't know that.

Not like the lines are going to be used by anything else than a Volt or Prius in a photo op/test setup..

Guess the same could be said about "Gas Sucking Rednecks" like you and me at a gas station. (Seriously.. does anyone park straight at a gas station?)

In limited quantities in places like California and New York. Closest they'd have to go to get one would probably be Chicago and even then 40K vs 30K for a Prius in 2011.. the University is going to cheap out (I went there, I would know..). Not to mention the vehicle was purchased around 2008-2009 on the dime of a CEAS Instructor and converted aftermarket.

Still, the lack of charging stations makes electric cars a scary thought. I think it is great that WMU is doing what a university should do, help their engineering students challenge the boundaries. Go Broncos!
