I paid over $300 for both, best $600 I ever spent, it pays for itself after the ticket you avoid. I have paid for mine many times over... MANY! This is an area where you get what you pay for, seriously. Beltronics is considered to be the best... sure there are others but Beltronics has the highest rating across the board I have seen. I have not looked in the last year or so, it may have changed... but I doubt it. The key is to always have it on, and in a good location (even though mine still works if its hiding in the glove box LOL). You still have to keep an eye out for cycle cops who don't run radar while riding usually, and for the ones who sneak up behind you with their radar off and "pop" it, the RX65 has "POP" detection, so if your out in the open your nailed... if your in a bunch of traffic, you can slide over and down out of the way if your good, and not obvious about it.

Ditto..... exactly

I love my RX65 and I think mine replace a 950, i would have to go look. On a recommendation a friend who bought a GT500 last year bought a Bel STi and like it very much, however, for a second detecter he purchased a Valentine. Those of you that know radar detectors know the Valentine is supposed to tell you which direction the radar is coming from. Well, if he had to buy again he says it would be another Valentine. I guess its not just a gimmick...

I am about ready to purchase another one and will most likely sticking with Bel. If you drive "aggressively" then they will definitely save you money. Honestly, I still get one to three tickets every two years.

Like others have said, you have to drive smart. You don't drive in the fast lane when there is little traffic, you look at every turn out and on ramp, and you have to learn the language the detector is speaking. Pop radar and Lasers are extremely difficult to defeat, so don't expect the detector to do all the work, plan on using your head as well. I have been using them for about 23 years now.

I use a Blinder on all my cars. It jams Laser and it will fit nicely in the little mail slot in the hood <wicked grin>. It's saved me at least 3 tickets in the last year alone, of course they aren't legal in all states, but here in Texas there's nothing they can do about it.

You need to move it closer to the license plate, that's what they are going to be aiming at with the laser.

I've seen a couple posts regarding the Valentine. Does anyone else have/had one that can comment? From ads I've seen, I like how it tells you where the radar is coming from and how many radars there are.

from all the things that i've read and seen about it,it seems to be out dated for its detecting.

Gotta love living in the Lone Star State. I have owned both the V1 and the Escort 9500i and IMO the Escort is superb. After a few years it seemed like the Valentine lost it's ability to "detect". Sure it worked well on the interstate, but we have one of those permanent "Your speed is" signs outside my neighborhood and the v1 stopped picking it up after awhile There are firmware updates for it but I never sent it in so I wouldn't know if the issue was resolved. Bought the 9500 last summer and haven't looked back. I also love the GPS function and how you can "lock out" false alarms have it display your current speed, hardly ever look at the gauges anymore.

I've had my V1 for a couple years and I love it --- it consistently lets me know where all of the threats are and many times miles in advance - especially on straight roads. In terms of instant-on (or popping) - it doesn't matter what detector you have - if there are no other cars around and the first time the radar is turned on is when it's aimed at you - you are going to get hit. Most of the officers around here leave the radar on and don't use the instant-on, but occasionally they do. A radar detector is never going to be 100% foolproof, but if you understand how the radars work and how your detector works, and adjust your driving accordingly, you will drastically reduce the chances of getting pulled over.

Uh huh. lol. Ive had two tickets, both over 90 MPH, dismissed (the marine uniform intimidates court people i think). Another time, the old cop was to slow to radar me as i flew past his truck at 120 (saw the lights on top of that truck and nearly peed my pants), so he just gave me a warning. Then another very lucky time, the cop pulled over the pickup that was crawling in the lane in front of me right as i was about to whip around him, laserd me and thought it was him. HA.

Anyway, Im about out of lucky pennies, and they wont let me off of any more, sooo... my question is if cops in cities even use radar anymore? Lasers are better and have been out for a while, so havent most cops upgraded? Im thinking buying a detector might be a waste...

Comments, corrections?

Exactly. I drive between two major cities on a stretch of interstate and it is heavily patrolled. I have no detector as of yet, but have managed to avoid at least 5 tickets this year alone, just by keeping my eyes open. Check the ramps, let the hill bleed off some speed until you see the valley is clear. If you cant focus and pay attention, then dont be speeding anyway.

However, Looking isnt always perfect. My two tickets have been from;

1: A cop in a personal vehicle (not fair at all)
2: A motorcycle cop behind a toll booth (again, cheeaap)

So id like to know what people think about my last question here.

It's all completely up to the city and how each individual budget works. Some have nothing but laser, some have a mix, and some still have nothing but radar. Cleveland has a stretched budget for everything these days and I know they do have a few laser guns to go along with radar.

Laser is best used on highways, so if a city does have only one or two laser guns they are predominately used only on the highways and on the streets they will use the radar.

These guns are not cheap. Used police surplus K-band radar guns go for around $1500.00. So brand new they are close to $3000.00, then they must be calibrated and certified every so often by the manufacturer. Laser guns are about $5000.00 each new.

Even in good economies, cities don't throw that kind of cash around without seriously thinking about it. So it will be a while if ever when all cities accross the USA throw out radar and go completely laser. Costs too much.

Fantastic. Thanks. Just reinforcing the idea that no matter what detector/blocker you buy, it will help, but wont be perfect.
Appreciate the snappy reply there fastball.
