Ditto..... exactly I love my RX65 and I think mine replace a 950, i would have to go look. On a recommendation a friend who bought a GT500 last year bought a Bel STi and like it very much, however, for a second detecter he purchased a Valentine. Those of you that know radar detectors know the Valentine is supposed to tell you which direction the radar is coming from. Well, if he had to buy again he says it would be another Valentine. I guess its not just a gimmick... I am about ready to purchase another one and will most likely sticking with Bel. If you drive "aggressively" then they will definitely save you money. Honestly, I still get one to three tickets every two years. Like others have said, you have to drive smart. You don't drive in the fast lane when there is little traffic, you look at every turn out and on ramp, and you have to learn the language the detector is speaking. Pop radar and Lasers are extremely difficult to defeat, so don't expect the detector to do all the work, plan on using your head as well. I have been using them for about 23 years now. |

I use a Blinder on all my cars. It jams Laser and it will fit nicely in the little mail slot in the hood <wicked grin>. It's saved me at least 3 tickets in the last year alone, of course they aren't legal in all states, but here in Texas there's nothing they can do about it.

I've seen a couple posts regarding the Valentine. Does anyone else have/had one that can comment? From ads I've seen, I like how it tells you where the radar is coming from and how many radars there are.

from all the things that i've read and seen about it,it seems to be out dated for its detecting.

I've had my V1 for a couple years and I love it --- it consistently lets me know where all of the threats are and many times miles in advance - especially on straight roads. In terms of instant-on (or popping) - it doesn't matter what detector you have - if there are no other cars around and the first time the radar is turned on is when it's aimed at you - you are going to get hit. Most of the officers around here leave the radar on and don't use the instant-on, but occasionally they do. A radar detector is never going to be 100% foolproof, but if you understand how the radars work and how your detector works, and adjust your driving accordingly, you will drastically reduce the chances of getting pulled over.

Anyway, Im about out of lucky pennies, and they wont let me off of any more, sooo... my question is if cops in cities even use radar anymore? Lasers are better and have been out for a while, so havent most cops upgraded? Im thinking buying a detector might be a waste... Comments, corrections?

However, Looking isnt always perfect. My two tickets have been from; 1: A cop in a personal vehicle (not fair at all) 2: A motorcycle cop behind a toll booth (again, cheeaap) So id like to know what people think about my last question here.

Laser is best used on highways, so if a city does have only one or two laser guns they are predominately used only on the highways and on the streets they will use the radar. These guns are not cheap. Used police surplus K-band radar guns go for around $1500.00. So brand new they are close to $3000.00, then they must be calibrated and certified every so often by the manufacturer. Laser guns are about $5000.00 each new. Even in good economies, cities don't throw that kind of cash around without seriously thinking about it. So it will be a while if ever when all cities accross the USA throw out radar and go completely laser. Costs too much. |

Fantastic. Thanks. Just reinforcing the idea that no matter what detector/blocker you buy, it will help, but wont be perfect.
Appreciate the snappy reply there fastball.
