Ed Peper VP GM on Camaro Nav, Z28, Convt and Order Count

Folks,

Just sat through a live web chat with Ed Peper, (GM North America Vice President, Chevrolet) who was taking questions about Chevrolet future products.

The full chat can be found here.

Here are the Camaro questions and answers. Most of it is news we all already know.

Q&A with Camaro content:

[Comment From Wayne]
The new Camaro SS has an outstanding powertrain...
[Ed Peper]
Thank you! We are so pleased with the reception Camaro has received in the marketplace. We have nearly 23,000 sold orders since the start of production.

[Comment From Sheth]
Will navigation and other features be added to Camaro in the short term? I once read that nav would be available late this year.
[Ed Peper]
Sheth, thanks for your question. The answer to that one is no. In all the research that we did with Camaro customers and prospects, a navigation screen was not high on their list. Camaro owners know where they're going and they want to get their fast so they don't look at the nav screen!

[Comment From Ellen]
When will we see the Camaro convertible?
[Ed Peper]
Q1 of the 2011 calendar year.

[Comment From Don Haller]
Rumors are that the plan for a Camaro Z28 have been postponed and worst case discontinued. Will we see a Z28?
[Ed Peper]: There are no plans for it right now.

That's all folks.

THANK GOD. For some reason it drives me nuts to even hear this issue getting repeatedly beaten to death and the unending rumor that its coming next year when it is so obviously impossible to work into the current dash.

You can spend $2000 extra for the Nav unit from GM or you can go buy one from Best Buy for $300.

PS: I can't afford the z28 right now do to student loans out the ass...so I could careless if they offer one now... the SS is plenty for me.

Just in time for my Birthday. Now all I have to do is hunker down and wait for 23 months.

you sound like the 'Crop Circle' guy. They've shown how it's done and demonstrated the hoax but there are some who just won't accept the truth.

I hope no one is surprised that the Z28 was a no-go in yet another interview.

I'd rather money for that stuff go toward a tough tranny and rear end, personally, and don't think there's a problem with any of the features
