Question USB port stopped working

Suddenly, my Zune will not play when connected to the USB port. I tried unplugging and plugging it back in, shutting it down and restarting the Zune. Also tried turning radio and ignition on and off. Then I tried using a flash drive and it played fine. Unplugged that and tried the Zune again and would not work. Put the flash drive back in and now it will not read that either, the flash drive lights up, but the radio will not switch to USB input. The screen display reads "auxilary input device" and will not swith to "USB device" when something is hooked up to the USB port. The Zune powers up when plugged in to the USB port, controls on the Zune work, but the radio is not getting the signal. If I plug the Zune into the Auxilary input, It plays through the stereo just fine. I don't get why the USB to radio connection suddenly will not work after three days of operating fine.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

No that seems to be fine. It powers up when plugged into the USB port. I doubt it is the cord, since the head unit will not read the flash drive either (it did before.)

Maybe I inadvertantly changed a setting on the head unit (?)

Problem solved!

Well, the problem seems to have fixed itself. I unplugged the Zune with the car off today, started the car, plugged the Zune back in while in FM mode and it kicked on just fine. Tried the flash drive later in the day and that works also. Maybe I confused the head unit unplugging and plugging everything.

Jammin' now!

My iPhone has done something similar. I turned phone off and on and of worked.

I am wondering if it has something to do with what mode the stereo is in when I last killed the ignition.
Maybe it's best if you don't kill it while using USB?

Last night it stopped working again while my wife was using the car. I think she had it on FM, hit the source button to get to USB, and the same Auxilary input message comes up again and will not switch to USB. I have to mess with it tonight to see what the deal is. :bangdesk:

Maybe there is a flash update or something that your dealer can complete?

I wonder if it is a cable issue. Since it is so intermittent, it seems like that could be it. When it's not working, can you wiggle around the cable on the USB side and the Zune side? If it happens to not work when you try it again, see if a flash drive works. If that doesn't, then there might be a cable problem with the jack itself. I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble with your Zune.

Oh, and what message is it that comes up? Aux jack out? The Zune should be one more source button press after that screen.

Unhappy Same problem

I had the same problem you had with my zune. It will not recognize it. I have had my car for about a month and just started using my zune this week. How do you fix this problem? The message keeps saying Aux jack out. It does not show a zune as a source button after this screen.

I had a similar issue with my first gen iPod Nano. I had to switch to FM, unplug the device, and plug it back in. It doesn't do it all the time, but seems to occur about once a week. Maybe something is a little buggy with the interface?
