Plasti Dip experiments
Been hearing a lot about plasti dip and decided to to a few experiments. So here are some of the results:
I did the inside of the front bowtie last night and taped off to leave a border of gold between the chrome and black. Tape peeled off nice. I will be surprised if it holds up for very long. This morning I attempted to do the rear bowtie. same result as the front. I did the RS symbol, although it looks good, I couldn't get it perfect and to me, more trouble than it's worth. I tried to do the trunk area around the bowtie but when I removed the tape the coating was being peeled from the metal as well. There is probably a better technique to it. And I did a little experiment on my license plate frame. The result is killer, however it is peeling on the lower corners. I think the material contracted as it dried. Next time I will spray the back as well. That was my mistake. So a while back I scratched the side covers of the center console. So I got some textured vinyl to experiment with. It looked awesome but over time the adhesive didn't hold up. So I ripped it off and did a plasti dip test on a small area. I couldn't peel it only get it off by scrubbing. That's a good thing. It clung well!!! So I did one cover and as you can see it looks good. Only one coat. Now, if it holds up over time it's a hit!

You have to peel the tape off before it dries. So while its still wet pull it to stop from peeling with the tape

so how long would I wait between coats? I peeled off right after the last (4th) coat. it had to be the previous coating peeling.

I waited 2-3 minutes between coats when I did my stripes. You really need to keep that tape edge wet, and pull tape immediately after the last coat. My stripes came out with a very clean edge.
Just be careful you don't apply so much that it runs/sags.

Ok that was my problem. I waited until it completely dried between coats. Thanks!

I did my rear bowtie and just ran an exacto knife around the edge before removing the tape. Everything came out fine.
