Just curious, from what a few people have said, it sounds like the engine actually cuts OFF when you hit the limiter? Is that right? On most cars I've driven (LT1 and LS1 Camaro), when it revs up to the limiter it will kind of bounce off it and stutter, but the engine doesn't actually cut off.

same thing some people call it cut off because thats what the injectors are doing(being cut off) but yeah the engine just cuts fuel lowers rpms and cuts back on or bounce

its just really fast but even your cars the engine was killed for a split second

and when you hit the governor it kills it longer and you will slow down about 5-10 mphs then fire right back up

some cars though like ford when you hit the governor it will just hold a certain rpm as long as you keep it wot, thats how it was on my sisters mustang anyways it just held at 5k no bouncing or stuttering at like 118mph on the v6

Your saying that you're losing races because you're hitting the rev limiter and the fuel is cutting out?
If that's the case, you need to learn how to shift your car at the appropriate time so you don't hit the rev limiter (problem solved).

You can have your car tuned to raise the limiter a bit, but you'll still need to pay attention to your tach as to not hit it.
That's what I'm looking for,GM has purposely set the rev limeter low (6600 rpm),for durability reasons the tach reads 9000 rpm's ,they test these engines all day long at this rpm so why not get the rev limiter to at least 7000 rpm's.I'm old school and many times shift by sound,it's not like the tach is in eye level view ,with the catback exhaust I've installed I shift by sound and 7000 is nothing for these engines!!!! I've been pounding GM engines for over 50 years and ain't scattered one yet and if so that's what the hell warranty is for!!!

This one is added to the list for my future mega-list of Camaro5 (and related sites) fails. Right up there with DEI.

And add me to the list of people concerned about the street racing, especially since this one seems to be a case of "more car than driver" and "PEBSAW"

Because? Old fart knows a thing or two about drag racing that many in this thread do not.

still doesn't explain why shifting past the peak of the engine makes sense though.

last i checked power drops off quiet a bit after 6.5k or so.

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong though.

Because if you power shift, you need to be able to bring the revs up past the power band so that the rpm falls to the optimum rpm when you let the clutch out. RPM goes up during power shifting, with regular folks, rpm goes down during shifting. Get what I am saying?
