Can you get a parts list of , at the minimum;the crank, idlers gears, actuators and their gaskets, chains, crank oil seal? Maybe the water pump seal too. Dang, that one was expensive. My guides looked good. If yours don't , you can use mine.

I will let you borrow my cam tools. But with what they are charging you to do it, it's hard to pass up. I'll put up a procedure .

I am having the dealership do the chain. THey should have my car done and back to me today. I can not wait. I am hating on the loaner, 2005 cobalt. Nice part is, they dont charge me for the loaner.

GM should offer a 'customer satisfaction' warranty of 10y/100k on these chains since it *is* a problem.

If my chain goes at 110k well then so be it. If it goes at 40K after 5 1/2 years I'm gonna be P.O.'d. I have 21k miles in 3 yrs 4 months.

This is the problem with a first yr GM. But this ISN'T a first yr motor!

Well, here is the update.

I sent a PM to Brandon, the Chevy Customer Rep who is on this site and asked if GM was doing anything about this issue since it seems to becoming pretty popular. He asked for some info from me and everything.

So, I leave work a little early to get to the dealership before they close. I am about 10 minutes away and I get a call from the dealership letting me know the "got a call from someone" and now my car will not be done until Monday (today) and that they would call me and tell me about the call then.

So, here is hoping my car is ready today. I am hating on the '05 Cobalt I am driving in now.

Interesting... please keep us updated. Also, how often did you change your oil and do you only use synthetic? Forgive me if it has already been answered , I'm at work and do not have time to go through the entire thread.

I changed it around 5,000 miles. I do all highway miles. Yes, I have only used Mobile 1 with the exception of once I used Penzoil Platinum.

Since it is a common issue it would be nice if GM took care of it for you. I hope you get good news later.

If enough people complained to the media they probably would offer that. The last thing they need is another mass media hysteria on gm engine failures on the famous 3.6. Its good that they appear to be fixing most issues but this is simply a Toyota Styled bad engineering issue that should have been addressed years ago.

Apparently makes no difference if you use synthetic or not.

We should start a "poll" in the warranty section on whether GM should extend
the warranty on timing chains.

I've noticed no issues at all, and I change my oil around 3,000 miles since I've heard this is the best thing for this engine.

But since I only have under 12,000 miles on my car since August of 2009, I'm worried I'll fall victim to this issue after the powertrain warranty is up. I hope not!
