I believe your state government also pays the welfare and healthcare of all your illegal immigrants who apply for it. Ugh.. :(

I.I. yes, I'd like to apply for welfare and state sponsored healthcare.
State: Okay. Can I see some ID, drivers license and SS card
I.I. I don't have either.
State: are you a US citizen?
I.I. No.
State: Wait for a minute while I get someone to help (call INS)
I.I. Is it going to be much longer?
State: No, as a matter of fact here is someone who can help you.
I.I. Wait, I want to stay
State: You are welcome to come back and stay after you've entered our country legally. Next!

That person just saved your state some money. That's not how it works I'm sure, but that's the way it should. America is the greatest country, and if you want to enter it, that's great. Just do it legally.

Well all I can say is how will they feel in those states when all the automakers will sell there are electric cars than can't go over 50 miles without recharging or hybrids... No more ferraries, lambos, limos and such, they won't meet the emmisions or mileage regs...

I predict a mass exodus from those states and then that will do more to clean up their air than the new cars sold there... nobody will want to live there causing a big economic collapse... I think then all the enviromentalists should move there and either walk or ride a bike everywhere...

G8 is safe for another 5 years, at which point it'll get redesigned...but it IS Pontiac now, so it'll be around. The Solstice is just...there. It's not doing any harm, and though it's fuel economy could be better -- it's not that hard to slam the new DI Ecotec in there. The Corvette is untouchable...though it can be delayed like any other car.:( And the Camaro...it's the Camaro. It's brand new, and it's piggybacking off of a widely-used platform. It's a HUGE attention-grabber, and when you get 27mpg out of a performance car...it's big news. It's going to draw more attention to Chevy that the Corvette. Mark my words. It's affordable, attractive, and practical for the coupe-buyer.

Still, I can't see any of GM's current RWD cars (or their replacements) going anywhere anytime soon. They are the core RWD performance cars.... And I have a very tough time believing GM would cancel any of them. What's getting hurt are FUTURE, un-needed (but neat to do) RWD cars...like the Impala. The ONLY reason Chevy didn't get its own G8, was because the Impala is a BIG seller (200k+ units)...you don't decrease the mpg rating on a huge seller like that.

Does this mean the current cars won't be worked over to adapt? Hell no. This isn't "it". Holden's finishing up a Hybrid Commodore, in fact, and there was an article recently about them looking closely into weight reduction for Zeta. And who ever said V8s were the be-all and end-all? We really need to get out of that mindset. IF they don't introduce a GenV engine soon, they'll have Direct-Injected, Turbo V6s pick up the slack.

Maybe it's just me...but I see no reason to get all panicy and hail the end of performance RWD. It's a sky-is-falling attitude to me. Yes...things are gonna change. But this isn't the 70s and 80s. Performance will endure. It's the WAY it endures that will change. Can we(as a community) deal with that?
Man I hope you're right. Just keep the 400 HP L99 available for at least half way through 2010 so I can get mine.

I love my state. Great driving roads, great terrain, lots to do... I love my company and don't want to leave it. But for all the reasons Aaron1121 mentioned, I'm seriously considering leaving. It would be one thing to pay all these taxes and fees and put up with all these regulations if they actually did something, but we have the worst services, the worst schools, the worst air, the worst public transportation...the list goes on. It just isn't worth it anymore.

I think there are a lot of people who would rather be some place else. Hell I live in Michigan! The ratio of 'smart people' to 'not smart people' has changed to scary proportions in a short amount of time.

I thought: one day I'll move to Montana because they have one of the lowest people/square mile ratios in the US.

Now I figure if I can manage to stay here in Michigan long enough we'll have a low ratio too.

Trust me... imvho if you're working - stay put.

God I love Montana...haven't been there since I was a kid. They don't call it the Big Sky Country for nothing...you really can see further up there! If I thought I could REALLY handle the cold, (shoveling snow every day, yuck) I'd move there...or maybe do it right and go all the way up to Alaska!

electric cars are a nonsense to me. Electric cars need electricity. Electricity has to be produced. You can't store electricity. "green" ways to produce electricity aren't enough. To get electricity for everybody you'll need nuclear plants. Green don't want nuclear plants. Greens don't want thermic engines.

Electric is just dead before birth. IMO

Besides, I remember this study made "dust to dust" comparing a hummer and a prius. Regarding the lifetime and technologies involved, a prius has a bigger impact on environment than a hummer.

This "green" frenzy is just scary ...

He's a hypocrite, just like most in his party.

As for his paycheck, get real. The President of the US doesn't make much money at all considering the job description. I think the minumum MLB salary is more, and if not, it's darn close. Anyone who is President is already rich and doesn't need the half-million dollar salary or whatever the job pays. His wife is a lawyer I think so she makes the coin too. He wants to spend more taxpayer dollars to allow government to make our decisions for us and put us in debt for who knows how longer and in return he won't collect his salary, big F'n deal. It's a nice gesture, but that's it.

Your point about people driving the worst polluting cars, meaning older cars I assume, is a good one, because if he has his way, their only choice will be buying a used car because the only new ones on the dealer lots will look like the Prius, be sized like a Prius, and just as dorky as a Prius. No thanks.
look at the Camaro. compare the interior options between the LS and LT to the 1SS and 2SS. buy the SS and you get more interior options and whatnot... and a bigger motor. im sure he doesnt give two shits about the extra power that he's got. especially now that he wont be driving that car very much.

the pres is around $400,000 a year plus a $50,000 expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment.

So $569,000 with limitations on how $169,000 of it can be spent

yeah, I agree, even making that, its not like he has to spend any coin for anything. but thats not why he's doing it. he's forfeiting his pay and that of congress to get the point across that congress is NOT doing their job worth a damn. if you dont do your job well, you get fired. unfortunately, its harder to just fire congress, but you can take their paycheck. granted im sure they've got kickbacks on top of kickbacks, but the point still stands that they are not doing their job and wont be getting paid again till they can.

I love the Prius. I wish nearly everyone would drive them.... leaves more gas for me. lol.

i drive a 94Z28 camaro. no cats, no AIR pump, no EGR, no emissions whatsoever. yeah, I think emissions are a bad thing, I really do. am I going to swap all my stuff back to stock so I can pass a sniffer test? no. because I dont have to. but like my points about california. the amount of cars is the big problem. and with millions of vehicles on the road day after day, it does add up. but there's a bigger problem with emissions/global warming/climate change/etc that people arent looking at. which ill bring up in a new thread later.

South Carolina is nice this time of year. I was actually thinking of going to the beach this afternoon.

I always enjoy your posts. Intelligent they are.

I own several vehicles from a SC'd 4Runner (that still gets 21MPG by the way) to a Honda CBR1000RR Sportbike with nearly every emission device disabled, to a commuter Ultra Low Emission Vehicle classified Accord that I carpool with. I've got a device installed in the commuter that puts the gas mileage square in my face as I drive to keep the mileage up and my foot OFF the gas. So far I'm averaging around 30mpg in the car over all, with a 36 MPG high and a 28MPG low. So yeah, I do my part.

My Camaro will be recreation only. I am concerned about the environment but I'm far from a tree hugger. I do my part where I can, but still enjoy life and the toys that go along with that enjoyment.
