I was closely analyzing the way the stock clamp bolts up to the bolts onto the 2.5" exhaust tubings after the cats and after looking inside the clamps I noticed that the possibly leak even when fully tightened. I have a better idea to remedy this but the result will be that it will be very difficult to remove my other setup idea when removing the exhaust which can be a PITA. So what do you think guys and gals, does the stock clamp leak enough to really hurt performance or should I implement plan B.

Oh and sorry I only have one bag of Popcorn not sharing. Third picture or bottom picture is my plan B on the right with the 2.5" ID tubing being used to merge the two exhaust sections. My plan C which is the best method is to enlarge the X pipe end to 2.5" ID to accept a 2.5" OD to 2.5" ID adapter that would secure the leaking issue and would also require 2 Accuseal clamps.

Also not to confuse you but those 3" ID to 2.5" OD adapters are only used to give you view of what I am talking about.

My clamps leaked for sure, I could see smoke coming out of them where they met up with the cat pipes. I tightened them up and messed with them, but still not 100% sure they're totally sealed.

They leak a little. Not enough to hurt anything in my opinion. The pinch clamps will compress the pipe and make it hard to get apart. I like to use the stock clamps so you can easily remove the section from the headers to the pipe for use at the track.

If tightened properly, they shouldn't leak, especially when they get hot.

Absolutely. Driving is the easy part. Parrellel parking it was the trick. :-)

I wonder if a leak at this clamp would cause the tick sound at idle some of us hear?

Get a tube of ACOUSTI/SEAL exhaust system sealing compound part #35959 made by Tenneco from your local auto part store.

They should be willing to order it if it's not an item they stock. Put some under both ends of the clamp as you slide it back and forth from cat midpipe to your catback pipes.

It'll stink a bit til it heat cures, but after you can be sure if the clamps are properly installed you will not leak.

I have used emery cloth and took off all the little burs and tightened them up and no leaks .

always been a fan of these style band clamps. We use them on the diesels with 0 issues with leaks

may have to pick a few of these up. just got under the car to make some adjustments and snapped a bolt off of the OE clamp. GM Parts direct has them for 20 bucks...these are 8....ill probably go with these.
