IPA is rubbing alcohol. Isopropanol or isopropyl alcohol. It removes waxes and oils from paint. By 1:1 he means equal parts water and alcohol. I never heard of this as an intermediate step in polishing but people have different methods.

Just machined polished my door today with adams shr-fmp-superwax!

Really? I hear it all the time. You'd be amazed how much oil the polishes can leave behind, which can hide and fill left over swirls. I would at least say you really need to do this after your finishing polish and before you apply any sealant or wax.

If your using adams products, there is no need for IPA wipedown before wax. If you still feel the need to get any last remaining bits of " whatever" off your paint before the wax phase, go with revive hand polish. It's more of a cleaner than a polish. Adams has chemists design their products to work together with the least amount of fuss.
