AIR SCOOP on 1LE
Hi everyone,
Just sold my 45th anniv. RS and picked up a 13 1LE 2SS/RS with under 1,600 miles. Already installed Elite catch can and CAI. Also have a brand new W/Washer relocate and Air Scoop from Apex. My understanding is that I have to cut my factory bumper shroud to install the scoop. Any way around this? I don't want to make any cuts on my car. Is the scoop worth the cut on the 1LE? Thanks |

No, it blocks the location where the air enters the scoop. So cut and install, or leave it off.

DIY install thread w/ pictures of the area to cut. You can see why you need to cut it; the solid piece of plastic would otherwise COMPLETELY block the airflow into where the inlet of the scoop is positioned. As far as your question of whether it's worth it or not, well that's up to you to decide. Here's Jannetty's intake dyno thread w/ and w/o scoop (no tune mind you, just bolt-up and dyno numbers.) TL;DR = 3whp 3.4ft/lb torque (AVG) gain and 4.4whp 5.3ft/lb torque (Peak) gains over just the intake alone. I plan on installing the scoop on my 2014 1LE but I also bought the car as a permanent addition to my garage so, I don't mind my mods affecting the resale value. Hope that info helps you make your decision. Last edited by ADR01T; 04-13-2014 at 07:23 AM. Reason: fix broken link |

Don't cut your bumper! These air intakes are getting out of control. If you need a few more HP, just do another mod.....don't worry about those stupid 2 HP from a scoop
You're welcome The '13 1LE is a 1 year body style car and I am against cutting body parts to mod.

Worth it IMO. I installed it on my '14, and it's much easier to install on the '13. It's exactly the same regardless of whether you install it on a regular SS or on the SS/1LE (and no it doesn't require cutting your bumper ). On the '13 you only cut a minimal amount - you can find pictures on the forum that show you exactly what has to be cut out.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the great responses and helpful links. I don't think I can use my dremmil on my 1LE though, feels wrong. I have to give credit to Apex on the quality of these parts, but just not right for me. I'll list the the washer relocate and scoop for sale.

It's not the bumper that gets cut it's the diffuser behind the bumper that gets snipped.
A scoop may make only a few HP difference on the dyno but on the road it does a ram air effect and helps keep IAT's down. It all depends on what you want out of your car. I did the install myself it wasn't much of a cut maybe a few inches on a part you will never see with the car installed.

Worth it!
I performed this mod on my '10 SS (granted it was the CAI, washer bottle relo and scoop all in one swail foop) and I didn't look back. Just ordered the same complete kit for installation on my '13 1LE.

I did it And never thought outerwise. My only concern will be with the intercooler I plan on getting. To me the little plastic icur out Iis worth the little gain. Good luck selling.
