I'm so freaking furious right now. Drove thru fresh asphalt
I drove through fresh asphalt about an hour ago. I'm so pissed right now I could literally do bodily harm to the asshats who didn't shut down the road while paving it. I have been driving on this road for the past 1.5 weeks because it's the only way to get to the school where my daughter is attending math prep for the 4th grade without having to go the long way around which would take 20 extra minutes. Today, however, the road was filled with workers paving it. I couldn't turn around because of cars behind me and in front. I thought everything would be o.k. We were driving on the newly paved side of the road just fine until they forced us off to the other side because we caught up with the paving machine. When I saw the rear tires of the car in front of me get his tires coated like a freshly glazed doughnuts put in a bowl of sprinkles, I immediately started to cry because I knew that would be my car's fate too. Then I had to hear the pinging sound of rocks hitting under my car. My wheels were coated so badly, when I hit the gas I just fishtailed. I'm not an overly emotional person but this really pissed me off. I was shaking I was so mad. I called hubby and was venting to him and asked him what I should do. So Now I'm off to the carwash to try and spray/scrape the asphalt off the wheels/tires and under the fenderwells.

Thats terrible! Did it get on the paint? I'm sure it won't do much harm especially if you have waxed it before. If it stains the wheels, use Mothers wheel polisher and polishing ball to clean it up, it will make them look like new Maybe try using engine degreaser on the fender wells??? Hope it turns out ok.

Call the paving company and have them pay for the cleanup.
I would and would be very pissy about it. |

I'd say Goo Gone and calling up the paving company are your best bets. They really should have closed the road down.

I know the feeling. I live in a Cul-de-sac and the roads have been messed up for years. I get a sweet ride, so they finally decide this is the summer to repave the road. Really frustrating, especially when they didnt even give us any notice at all.

They usually can't close the road down. They'd get as many people calling in mad about that. Unless the asphalt was defective or they didn't have warning signs or lowered speed limit signs, I doubt the asphalt company would do much for you. They're supposed to warn you so you have a choice to take a different route. I've seen them extend a $100/car courtesy clean up allowance. The goo gone works pretty well.

It sucks, but its part of the game of driving on the road.
You can try to ASK (not demand, ASK) the paving company to extend you a payment to have the car cleaned, but I suspect you're SOL. I know it sucks, but its part of life on the road. |
