Stock Axle Spec Question

Looking to compare others who have replaced their stock axles and if still have them on the length of just the drivers side end to end. Mine is 34 3/4in end to end not compressed so would like to verify if others are same. Car is a SS / M6.

You have to compress fully to get an accurate measurement

So if i have my stock laying next to a aftermarket piece uncompressed would i expect them to be same length ? I ask due to they are not the aftermarket is shorter. Also when the aftermarket one was installed both inner and outer boots were are full extension and the axle shaft had maybe 1/4 inch lateral movement either direction if that. Where on the passenger side both boots look at normal compression and the lateral movement is much more.

You would expect the compressed lengths of the stock and aftermarket pieces to be the same. IIRC, the outer CV is fixed on the axle and only the inner can move in and out. That inner should not be fully extended when installed and sitting at rest because it will try to extend further if the suspension drops due to a pot hole etc.

Thanks my thinking to being same length compressed, as well not being full extension.
