Thats actually not too terrible... if its mostly stop and go. On my '12 LS I was getting 18-20 most fill-ups. If I did more highway I'd usually see 21-23 on an average.

My first fill-up on the SS I average 16.8 lol

onlt problem with your gas mileage is your lead foot. could be the wind too, maybe you got real lucky the first trip and got a tailwind,

Feel ya! There getting better gas mileage than me! Lol! I owned a jeep wrangler v6 before this and it was way worse! I also had that same evap leak as you and it had no effect on my gas mileage.

Maybe differences in wind speed/direction....Winter blend vs. summer blend gas makes a big differences as well. I suspect if you make the same trip again in a month or two, it will be up somewhat again. Also, is it the same gas, or did your stations recently start adding more ethanol to the premium you've been buying? That would make a noticeable difference as well.

That's awesome mileage for an SS. Unless the CEL is on or the engine sounds like it's sobbing, you're probably fine. I average anywhere from 20-22 city regardless of how I drive. I have a picture saved somewhere of 34.0 MPG average too. Too many factors to say what it could be.

Side note, anything short of Chevron seems to be low grade gas. And being that the LS3 isn't direct injection, you make use of the Techron fuel conditioner.

The OP is not complaining about the 29 mpg he got. He is complaining about not getting that all the time on a similar trip.
Although I do agree with most of you, what he is getting should be expected. Probably even less.

I decided that MPG was a poor benchmark to use on my SS so instead I switched to SPG (smiles per gallon). For some reason those go up every time I mash the gas pedal harder. Now my wallet may not like the new bench mark as much but we all cannot be as happy. But I still average about 15 MPG around town and about 23 ~ 24 on the highway. I typically drive with the flow of traffic or +5 ~ 10 over posted fast enough that Im not the slowest thing on the road but not fast enough pass everything and over draw attention to myself. My one addiction is acceleration especially if I'm at the front of the line at the light........

driving out at 72 with the cruise = 24.3MPG = boring.
driving back at ?? / ??? no cruise = 20.3 MPG = why I bought an SS (and then supercharged it). Losing 4 MPG is not worth driving like I borrowed it. The key to better gas mileage is maintain the speed (even at 86 = 2,000RPM on tack). The killer is mashing the pedal to the floor (multiple times).

I also average 26.1 driving to Norcross, GA everyday in my LS3 with cruise on 73 driving over gently rolling hills with midgrade gas. Bone stock... but not for long.
