2010 SS vs my brother's Pontiac G8 (drag race)
My brother has enticed me to drag him at the quarter mile speedway. We'll probably have to do it in the spring as it has already snowed here. But, he tells me that many G8's are getting 1/4 mile times about exactly the same as our SS Camaro's.
He has an automatic and has no chance of mistake (outside of poor reaction time). I could miss 3rd gear and look really stupid. Is he just psyching me out? Do I really have a lot to fear with this family truckster?! It is fast...but couldn't the SS take it easily (as long as I don't miss a gear)? Any utube drags of this race as I couldn't find any? BTW I'm completely stock as is he. I don't want to let us down!!!

is it the g8 gt or the GXP? that will make a difference, although either way you should win.

Stock G8 GT's run in the mid to high 13's in the 1/4 mile. Not slow by any means, but you should still take him pretty easily.

The G8 GXP I believe would be a great race between it and an SS .. close stock for stock.

Not sure which model he has but not the gxp. It's weird that a family sedan could match the camaro. Is it a lot lighter or something? I understand that the G8 doesn't even have the matching HP that we have...??

it's actually a little heavier. The Camaro and G8 are very similar cars...based on the same platform. If it's a stock G8-GT, than you should be faster...unless he's a much better driver than you are.

the difference is the G8 GXP comes with a 3.70 rear gear. My friend scott has a GXP, its white, nice ride, but the good news is my camaro is still faster. Were both manuals as well.

Man, the internet never ceases to amaze me.
quickest time for G8GT(bone stock) is 13.3x ( I think it was 13.34) tune/intake/catback have dipped in the 12s by several people on our message boards. Average times for decent conditions is 13.5-13.6. Horrible track conditions/weather then yeah you might see a 14. I raced an LS1 equipped WS6 shortly after buying this car, and I won, by a small bit. So they aren't a slouch. But I think the Camaro should win the race assuming you know don't screw up the driving. PS Fastest GXP recorded (stock) is 12.8x. ________ Buy Iolite Last edited by jrc1122; 03-11-2011 at 10:03 PM. |

The G8 is no slouchy family car in my opinion. Although I didn't really pay attention that much, I did watch a G8 gt and new Camaro SS at a local drag strip go at it quite a few times. It was a couple of buddies racing and the ones I watched they went back and fouth on who won. They were pretty close on their times. Of course it depends on the driver and neither were pro's.
