Rear End fluid Change! What to use?

I had the dealership change it, still makes the noise. Someone posted about a certain fluid to change it to. Can anyone recommend what to use? Thanks!!

correct part for the ZL1 is the "LS Dexron gear oil" part #88862624. All additives are in it already. Don't get fancy with other stuff...just get this as it is what was designed to go in the ZL1 rear. It is expensive at $20ish per quart. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=88862624

I would verify the part number the dealership used if you still have the invoice. I think mobile 1 also makes fluid that would work as well that has the adative in it. Someone posted in they used royal purple and had some noise issues.

rule of thumb is make sure the oil you buy has the addtive in it or if you buy expensive fluid witout it you add it in.

I am always nervous about dealerships. they pretend to know cars but many of them are marginal at best.

On my Z06 I took the TSB to the dealer made sure they fluid they used matched the part number on the TSB and the problem was solved. On the corvette side many dealers just told the owner that noise and draging tires in sharp turns were normal. Thats how brilliant some dealers are.

I tried Royal Purple and I have no doubt it is a great rear end fluid but it does not have the additive packge that GM requires to make the ZL1 rear noise free. In other GM vehicles it is probably a "non-issue". Mobil 1 is similar...great fluid but not the correct additive that GM requires. Try them if you like, but you will come to the same conclusion as I did. Just use the right stuff from GM and forget about it.

I figured mobile 1 probably made the GM.

Royal Purple whined A LOT in my '10 SS. I think I read somewhere here that Pennzoil Synthetic was good and had the additives.

Royal purple whined in my rear end too. GM's solution was the LS gear oil used in the corvettes. For 10-12 SS cars it required an axle seal change over to accept the LS gear oil. I haven't heard of diffs being noisy on ZL1s. Just certain '12 and earlier SS cars...I'm curious as to what comes of this.

They did change my axle seals to change the oil when I brought it in. I`m going to go by and ask the service department what is on record what they used and did since my car is at G-Force.
