My recent Avis experience

Went on a business trip to Denver this week and found out Avis has some problems. We waited about 30 min on a bus to pick us up and take us to the Avis facility. The Hertz bus drivers were even making fun of us standing there so long - they had plenty of buses going around. Anyway, finally made it to the Avis building and then we had to wait about another 30 min for a car (along with a lot of other people). But right there in the front was a nice red SS Camaro! We tried to get a free upgrade (begged, pleaded, cried) but no go, checked on price and it was $140/day.

So the next day a couple other of my co workers flew in. That night they were complaining about how small their car was and no trunk room for luggage. I asked what car they had and they said the new yellow Camaro They said Avis had no cars left so gave them that one. So I said keys please (sorry, no pix of the yellow SS, to excited)

The car had about 4000 miles on it, didn't really seem like 400hp, does Avis put a governor on them?

I just drove a V6 LT for four days and I'm impressed...

So impressed that I'm going to the Chevy dealer to see about gettin' rid of the GT500.

was it an automatic or manual? People have been having problems with the automatic and the horsepower feel.

I'm sure it was. Dyno correction around here are typically between 1.2 and 1.25. 1/4 miles times hover right around 1 second slower.

Plus the issue with slowness on the auto seems to have been linked to putting low-octane gasoline in the tank. But I'm sure that the previous rental customers would never have done such a thing.

I may have to end up renting one through Avis myself just to get an actual test drive. No one I know owns one and the dealerships that do have 1 or maybe 2 won't let anyone test drive unless you have cash in hand. So getting a driving feel before I throw down $36,650 looks like it's only going to happen through a rental place, ohh well.
