Set of heads coming off
I'm looking at a new set of heads very shortly, so I'll be pulling my 10,000 mile OEM heads. I haven't finalized whether I'll have these reworked or if I'll be buying Texas Speed heads.
What are the OEM'S worth and is there a market for them?

I would say currently they'd be worth core charge amount. I'm thinking $1800-$2300 range. I could be WAY off. I think the real value is with the original vehicle, especially as the years go by and "numbers matching" becomes important.

I completely agree on the numbers matching aspect. Although the heads don't have numbers, there is no need for me to store these if I decide to go aftermarket. My goal is fun, not investing. That's why I have a Z/28 AND a 401K.

I'm looking at the same process. My mechanic is directing me to Texas Speed also. Stage 2 head/cam package. If I do that, I will keep my original heads and have the valve giudes repaired, in case I want to go back to stock someday. Keep us informed about what you are doing. Thx!

I know that if you go through GPI, they will give you 2k on the heads for a core charge. If they have cores available to rework, you can pay 4k upfront, they'll send you the new heads, then you can send yours back and get 2k back (thats what I did when I used them actually)... Or of course you can simply send them in and pay 2k to have them reworked, the same as any place.

First ZL1 I got was a regular ZL1, I was highly disappointed and highly troubled by my decision. The ZLE however is close enough to the Z/28 that it still suits me, despite having all the gadgetry/amenities I will certainly never use. |

Core heads are going for around 1k bucks. Seen em as cheap as 600 and as high as 1800 but those are still sitting with the sellers. Just depends on how fast you wanna get rid of then or if you don’t mind them sitting around.
