You can get a manual for the base V8, but it will be a LS3 not L99.
L99=Auto LS3=Manual Thats what I have hear. |

No the only "packages" I think is the SS which = V8 and the RS package which could be a V8 or a V6. The L99 it just for autos. The SS can be in L99 and LS3.

I think they are pretty similar engines they just had to use the L99 for the AFM, or something along those lines.

Fuel Management only available on the automatics, to help with the mpgs.

AFM is Active Fuel Management. It is Chevy's version of Cylinder Deactivation at highway type loads to turn off 4 cylinders to save gas. This makes the L99 the AFM version of the LS3. Just a few internal components were changed to make it an AFM engine. As in the the G8 GT the L76 can't come with a Manual Tranny just cuz of the AFM nature of that engine. The "base" SS is L99 in auto form and LS3 in Manual form.

Active Fuel Management Example: If you have a V8 engine and if your are cruising at low speeds AFM engages and shuts off 3 or 4 cylinders tell extra power is thus needed Edit- yall bet me to the puch, anyhow what he said^

The spec PDF doesn't specify which transmission is standard on the SS or if it is a no cost option to get the L99+auto instead of the LS3+manual. |

I would suggest looking at G8 GT pricing for a good indication of what the SS is going to cost out of the box. Seeing as this is the same platform as that car.

Manual (LS3) is standard. The L99 is the version of the LS3 with AFM that is coming with the Automatic transmission.
Since the auto (L99) is an option, I would think it will be more expensive. From what I understand, it's the same engine as the LS3, but with AFM technology. If anything, the extra technology would logically cost more than the plain LS3 engine. That's just my take on it. |
