10.9 sec 1/4 mile car...

Hey guys, I'm looking for some info on what I need to do to get my car in the 10's(1/4 mile). I have a L99( vert)with a SLP supercharger going in on May 7th and will be around 550 Hp( front). This is all I have planned to be done and the rest of the car is stock. Could you give me some advice on what to do next. I also want the beef up the car to handle this power. I have a budget of $10,000 to $15,000( this does not include the super charger cost). My original option was to install a 427( 770 Hp) from SLP, but I don't want to be stuck with an extra engine to haul back to Canada. Maybe this is the easiest way in the long run.

Transmission needs ?

Rear Gear ? ( size and brand)

Cam ? (Brand and size)

Headers ?( Long or shorty, brand)

CAI ( Brand)

Slicks ? ( brand)

Tune ? (Mail and who) I have a Diablo currently ( not used yet)

Dyno (who in Ottawa,Canada)

Drive shaft ?

Rear End ?

How should I spend this money wisely ?
Could you give me some detail on, the areas to meet my needs and how much to do this work. I would be sending the car out to complete each task and I'm not able to do this work at home. Thanks for all your info on my questions and if I missed anything, let me know.

On a vert, you'll need prolly 650 rwhp if u don't do any weight reduction.

You'll need a drag radial, torque converter, cam, heads. With all that your going to be around 600rwhp. I'd say do all that and pull some weight out of the car on track day.

Depends on your DA. If your DA is near O then you will need the TVS2300, pulley kit to make 10psi, ZL1 fuel pump,ADM FPCM, 60lb injectors, cai, LT headers, trailing arms, meth kit, 18inch MT 305/45R18 drag radials, torque converter, trans cooler and tune. I really think this would be all you would need to make about 550RWHP and run 10.9 in 0 DA conditions. If you want to play it safe to for sure get into the 10's with worse DA and track conditions then do a LS3 conversion cam kit with a blower grind and ID-850 injectors. No other suspension parts, trans upgrades, or rear end upgrades needed for high 10's with a L99 car. Also most tracks are going to kick you out running that fast with a vert and no cage.

Hi Rhino, thanks for the response. What weight could I pull out ? I would rather add more power then remove things. I have had some prices that are around $25,000 without what it cost for the supercharger. Seems high to me or I'm just crazy. Over $7000 plus tax just to rebuild the tranny.

I went 10.99 for $10k. Granted it prob took another $75k to get the next second!

Hi Vader, thanks for your reply. My 1st choice was to stick with the super-charger and rebuild the rear and driveshaft. Then make a decission from there what I need to do. I'm have the problem of not wanting to wait I don't want to have to re pay for things once I have upgraded something else by finding out I should have done this and that earlier.
The SLP 427 in 770 Hp for around $18000 plus tax and to rebuild my engine would be around $12,000 plus tax and the supercharger. Almost better to by the 427 and keep the L99 as a good back up with only 7000 miles on it.

Seems like $10,000 gets you nothing these days. What did you do for the $10,000 ?

Transmission needs ? If anything add a cooler

Rear Gear ? ( size and brand) 3.27 will do but the 3.45 would do better

Cam ? (Brand and size) Can of worms!!!! Ls3 conversion?

Headers ?( Long or shorty, brand) Long Tubes, any brand, 1 7/8"

CAI ( Brand) TVS like the CAI brand

Slicks ? ( brand) Slicks only if you are buying $700 Bogarts. Otherwise 18" drag radials on a Vette wheel is all you'll need

Tune ? (Mail and who) I have a Diablo currently ( not used yet) See Ted Jannetty

Dyno (who in Ottawa,Canada)

Drive shaft ? Not needed

Rear End ? A 3.45 with Billet caps and Jannetty Posi mod is more than enough

How should I spend this money wisely ?

You'll prob need between 575 and 600 rwhp to get that 10.9 slip. So a cam would be the safest way to go. No cam and you'll be cranking the boost quite high which may or may not work out. That being said I would add a good fuel system. Don't cut corners here. I's go with the LPE duals. Great system and not expensive. After that injectors.

Leave the drivetrain alone if you are on a budget. Any changes will be protection but won't really add to the performance. On the L99 the stock components hold up quite well. Just get a set of 18" drag radials on Vette wheels 18x9.5 40 mm offset.

So really you'll need the blower, cam and valve train, injectors and fuel system, LT's and a cai. That's about it. There will be little things like a better tensioner and catch cans but that stuff is cheap.

If you want me to spend your $15k budget I'll be gald too!!!! Start with the engine stuff and then work backwards from there.

TVS 2300 @ 10.5 psi, LT's, CAI, 18" drag radials.

545 rwhp / 550 rwtq. 4k lb race weight

A good transmission tune is all you need. 6l80s hold up good at higher rpm and power if the tune is spot on.

I say weight reduction because the convertible cars are heavy! 550 rwhp on a 4200 plus lb car will probably not get you 10s, I think it would be close but no cigar.

A good cam/head setup on aggressive boost will get you there with a great lightweight wheel/tire combo.

Nitroman28 has cam/head 10 psi setup in a hardtop car that will run 10.50-60 if I had to guess off his 1/8th times. That power level will get you high 10s with the heavier car.

HP doesnt really equate to faster ET times. Getting your car to transfer the power your engine produces to the ground should be your main focus. I read up on a blown 6speed with a 100 shot of nitrous, roughly producing close to 900rwhp, running 10.5 ET. I also have seen a cam only car run 10.8. Since you have a auto, its going to be much simpler to breach into 10's. Slap on the headers, grab a dyno sheet, send it to FTI to custom build you a stall, add a trans cooler, drag radial up and go from there. Should breach 11's with that.

Anyone have the latest on roll bar requirements for a 10.9 vert?
A number of members have learned about it later than sooner.

Any vert 13.49 to 9.99 needs a roll bar.
