Squeaking brakes?

My brakes started squeaking recently. I heard it first when it was raining, and it seems to be worse when it rains.

The funny thing is that it only happens if the car hasn't been turned on for like 4 to 5 hours. Then it will squeak for a while, then go away.

Will warranty cover this? I don't break excessively hard so I don't see why I should be having this problem.

Also does anyone else have or had this problem? What did you do?

Thanks,
Roshan

Much worse with SS Brembos. I didn't know the V6s had an issue at all.

I've heard that but I never actually researched that to see if it was true...

But if it's normal to have squeaking, why didn't I have squeaking for the first 9 months of ownership?

The squeaky-ness(not sure if that's a word lol) just came out of no where! the sound makes me cringe and I really want it gone!

Cheap brakes = squeaking brakes

Expensive brakes = squeaking brakes

I have had the same issue on my 2LT/RS. It is extremely annoying and embarrassing. It happens when I've left the car sitting for a while. The squealing occurs while braking at low speeds for about the first 5-10 minutes, then goes away.

I've brought my vehicle in many times for service, and they would tell me that the noise was normal. Which is total BULLSHIT. It didn't make that noise until at least 8 months after I bought it. And other new cars, and old cars for that matter do not do that.
The service department said my brakes were glazed, and sanded the rotors. That stopped it for about a week, then it came back.

I say GM needs to step to the plate and correct this clear QUALITY issue. It is a shame for such a silly issue to distract from an otherwise amazing vehicle. Step it up .... No excuses.

I have the EXACT same issue. The exact circumstances under which the brakes squeal are the same for me. I am hopefully going to go in and get my car checked soon....

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with this issue

We see the squeaking in all of the higher performance GM vehicles. The honest only way to get rid of the squeaking and the dust is to get the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads. My car is two weeks old, to me, and I've ordered a set for myself already. We sell them if anyone is interested.

Slap some axle grease onto the rotors; the brakes will quiet down, tout de suite. Of course, lack of squeekin' ain't always good...

On XBox's Forza3, even the $1.5 million Bugatti has squeaky brakes.

There is actually a TSB on the "squeeky brakes" issue.

TSB# 10-05-23-002

The TSB is for the V8 models with the Brembos, however clearly the smaller brakes for the LS/LT have the same issue. And if I remember correctly, its only for the front pads.
I had my local dealer perform this on my car, and it corrected it for a bit. Might be worth a shot.

But as a previous poster said, replacing the brake pads with a higher quality brand may be the only real fix. Good luck.
