Wheel Widening and Spacers - Help Needed - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I know there have been many posts on this and I have searched and pretty well read through them all. I am still a bit confused and looking for concrete answers from those that have done what I want to do.

I want to send my 20"x9" rear wheels to either Vaughn or Weldcraft to be widened to either 10.5" or 10.75". My question is since this is entirely backside widening, do I need to run a spacer and if so how much? The tire I will run is a Nitto 315/35-20.

I know some have done this with front wheels but I want to keep my fronts as is and use the existing rears for this. Any help is appreciated!

Barry,

It's been a while since I have seen one of the "wheel widening" threads, but there are quite a few of them out there so you should be able to find them. Do a search using the word "ADM" or "Weldcraft" and you should be able to find one relevant to you.

I can't remember exactly, but I believe you will have to use a spacer to widen them to their widest width (11") and to use the 315 mm tire. It also depends on how aggressive of a stance you want...More stock or more aggressive. Here are a couple of pictures of a Camaro 5 member's car where he used 1" spacers on the front and back of his car behind his painted stock rims. I can't remember if he widened his rims, but I think his Camaro's stance is outstanding.

Thanks Iceman, I had read that post and had inexplicably skipped over the fact that he didn't use spacers. Guess I was up too late reading that night, haha! Thanks again, that does answer my questions. Agreed, that black Camaro's stance is sweet!

Andy at ADM Performance did mine for me. Moved the rear wheels and 275 tires up front with no changes, and widened the stock front wheels (moved to the rear) to 10.75". Running a 305 tire and using a 1" spacer.

I just received a set of wheels back from Weldcraft that I had widened. It took them over 9 weeks and in the interim I lost patience and ordered a set of forged wheels. So, if you're interested in buying these let me know. I'll take the cost of the widening for them, which is $1000.

Here are some pictures, one of which is the part number to the adapter/spacer you'll need for them.

The problem with moving the rears up front is that they have thicker spokes than the front rims. I wanted to keep the subtle difference between the front and back, which is why I had the fronts widened by 1" and the rears widened by 2".

1" that's like a 25mm spacer? O.o?

20mm adapter is ideal for rear wheels widened by 2".

wheel widening has been around for years upon years.

And here's a testament to how strong these wheels by Work are...The guy that owned this G35 is someone I know...I guess he was racing on the freeway; hit a dip with blown struts going North of 150+mph

The wheels have since been re-built and are on his new car.

there's a difference between a cracked wheel/bent wheel, and one that has had a precision cut via plasma/cnc program.

Try running an eddie current test; its not the same strength. The cracked wheel I had posted a picture of was one that was widened by a reputable source in Socal which will remain name-less....You won't ever be able to have a true-runout wheel with less than 4oz of weight on any wheel that has been cut and rewelded.....
