If the options were Yes, No, and Hell No, I would have selected Hell No. Flip up headlights are unnecessary moving parts that can fail... and have failed on two of my previous Firebirds. Body-fitted headlamps (ala Corvette) are a good example of form fitting function... properly integrated for low drag coefficients and more reliable (no moving parts). Give me body-fitted LED lamps please.
Pop ups are retro, but it's a throw back to a poor mechanical design choice in the F-body lineage. Keep retro-ness solely in the domain of design cues... not mechanical or electrical features. |

If the hideaways were an option I would consider it!

I'm on the fence with the hideaways. Would look fantastic with the 8 LED hideaways, but they could break down and whatnot. I might get removable covers or an aftermarket set. I love the look though.

There's lots of unnecessary waste on this car, and hgieaway lights are just too cool. Really, what's the worst that can happen? They fail and you don't have the money to fix them, so you manually flip them open and leave them like that, and they look and operate just like they would if they weren't hideaway in the first place.
Anyway, they ought to be an option, not standard equipment; and that would probably be one of the select few options I'd get (along with limited slip and sunroof). Edit: What the deuce? How did I mistype "hideaway" as "hgieaway"?

The big question here is what to do if GM doesn't make these. Obviously, some of us have become very attached to the idea of hidden headlights, myself included. Who here can make these for the rest of us?

Well back in the day when you bought an RS wasnt the hide-away standard? I thought the big part of being an RS was body features ala. hide-away lights. Maybe if you wanna just buy the standard V-6 there is an RS option, but I'm sure there is RS options for all of the Camaro's.

The problem with the hideaways is for one they are not accepted in Europe, the headlights have to be exposed. The last car from GM to go over with hideaway was the C5 Corvette. The other problem is the cost and warrenty claims. Which would be very high I'm sure.
Just because Gm might not offer it don't mean you won't see it. I can see another company coming and offering it as an aftermarket item. |
