correct... they took like a 305 block with 283 pistons or something crazy like that to make the 302. I have no idea what the exact combo was but the 302 started out as the first "hybrid".

The Z was always meant to be the better performance car. Maybe not the fastest but everyone knows it isn't speed alone that wins road course races... I used to small track race my C5 a bit and the Miatas would always turn better times.

327 block 283 crank
better "track" car
Miata's are good on tight twisty tracks

ahhh yes thats it 327, not 305 my bad thanks! and you are correct about the other two as well. A better "track" car, not performance. My bad, wrong word choice. And the Miatas tear up tight tracks, thats what I did in the C5.

edit... just noticed you have a miata! ha ha cool!

Oh man, then we are in a real conundrum then if we already have the SS and the Z/28 was suppose to be the saving grace!

I say who cares what the name plates USE to represent, just make a supercharged Camaro with some suspension upgrades to bi@tch slap the Ford fanatics...

Besides to me Z/28 has always sounded more bad@ss like the current ZR1, it may not be in form with the norm, but we already have the SS...

Hey,

In the first gen. the SS were both big dogs in there respective classes. The Z/28 did well and won in the Trans AM series. The SS did great at the track to take on all the competition.

How does a statement from a guy who came on board for the 5th gen with no prior Camaro experience all of a sudden become "official" on 40+ years of Camaro heritage?

This sounds like to me that hopes for a 5th gen S/C Z28 are dying down. So they are perhaps either setting the stage for a far more toned down Z28 or none at all.

Maybe they are trying to keep the momentum for sales going without giving people a third option down the road. Sell what they can today and have people upgrade in a couple of years when a Z28 comes out.

I would like to see the Z28 come back as a striped down ss model.

Maybe sport the V6 front bumper.

Basically make it a LS with a LS3 in it. And sell it for 26-27G's ?

I've always been at the understanding as well that the SS was the top dog of the Camaros...I was confused when everyone here was talking about the z28 being the supercharged faster version.

The Z/28 was NOT a 1/4 miler. Compared to the SS which you could get the big block V8's on, it had the small block 302, was lighter, had better suspension and brakes and was built to win the Trans Am series against the Boss 302 Mustangs and other muscle cars in that series. And it DID win. The Roger Penske/Mark Donohue blue and yellow Z/28 Sunoco Camaros were legendary winners.

I don't know why people would complain if Chevy comes up with a 5th Gen Z/28 that follows that heritage; that would be an awesome car! Big scoops, supercharged engines, huge slicks in the rear? Nope, that's the SS's territory; the Z should be the road racer's champion it is and was.

completely true.
the SS is the Big dog.
the Z28 is the All-Around dog.
the ZL1 is the OMGWTFBBQ dog

SS was the straight line beast. the Z28 was the all around performer.

because most people are used to the 4th gen setup where there was a base model and a Z28 out first, then an SS later (with more power from SLP). and feel that the SS should be the better/faster/stronger/whatever car over the Z28.
