For the first time in their history, the HorsePower guys bring in a late model Mazda Speed 3 for a Simple air induction, computer programming upgrade. They get blown away with the results on their chassis dyno and on the open road.

i'm excited! my failboat platform is getting some tv time.

Its about F-ing time they put on a legit import. There's so much potential locked into these factory turbocharged cars its almost ridiculous. I'd love to see them build up a bad ass 4G63 powered car like Evo 9, Eclipse, Talon, or a WRX or STI in the mix. 700awhp pump gas evo's all over this country running 9 seconds on not too many mods and I dont understand why its not on Horsepower TV, not asking for Muscle car special but at least educat the mass that its easy to have a turbo charges awd V-8 killer.

nice clip, but i still wouldn't buy a hypertech. it doesnt really do anything to increase PEAK hp, just the drop in higher rpms isn't as bad. save some more money and buy a cp-e standback...

I was hoping they'd spend more time on that. You're right it wasn't much difference at peak, but it looked like it was quite a bit higher on the bottom and top. Isn't one of the complaints on the Speed3 the sharp drop after peak? Neat little station wagon though, I like em.

yes, the stock ecu never really opens the throttle plate 100% even at WOT, and cuts it off further after 5800 rpms. i guess the hypertech device kinda helps reducing the cutoff, but for example a cp-e standback with full control flashes removes the load cap 100% so you get power all the way to redline.

flashes are gonna be my next mod actually. i just dyno'd my MS3 on cpe-s "heartbreaker" dyno on saturday. it's a mustang dyno that for some reason reads a lot lower than other dynos, even other mustang dynos. a nissan gt-r with full exhaust and intake/inlet put down "only" 365whp lol. unfortunately not many big turbo MS3's showed up so my MS3 had the 3rd highest number of the day with 254whp (which should be around 290whp on a dynojet). i'm pretty much bolted: cpe intake/inlet, cobb downpipe (catted), borla exhaust, cobb fmic, cpe fuel pump, running 18psi on a cp-e standback. i'm still optimizing the tune and once i'm done that should give me another 10whp or so. the flashes will improve that number even more obviously...

interesting how Mazda's flagship car has much, much less hp than its 2nd level performance 5 door car... as a past FD owner, its sad...

Not bad. I would take my previous CSRT4 over the speed3 any day. Much more potent and reliable power plant.

Dodge had a mis-cue and did not put a LSD in them and opted for a BLD instead. Only bad thing about it. Once you get rolling it was a beast.
