Do you regret buying a Z/28 and wish you had a ZL1?
I'M LOOKING TO TRADE UP FOR A 2014 OR 2015 Z/28.
This is my original for sale ad I posted a month ago: I'm smitten with the new Z/28. It's time to make the leap, but not without selling my prized ZL1 first. There are a ton of pictures in my signature link below and if there's something you want a specific picture of, just shoot me a pm. Options: Exposed carbon fiber weave hood insert, interior suede package, sunroof, 5 spoke wheels. A short list of upgrades: Premium Shield clear bra full front & rear quarters with lifetime transferable warranty. Windows tinted 50% side, 35% rear. Roto-Fab CAI with Carbon Fiber wrapped tube and powder coated air box. Roto-Fab carbon fiber engine and fuse box covers. Big Gulp brake duct & Roto-Fab washer relocation kit. Moroso catch can. ZL1 addons splitter washers. Jabfab front license plate holder. Phastek front splash guards. Hurst short throw shifter with upgraded bushing kit. Brand new Michelin PSS's with less than 1,000 miles on them. And for the icing on the cake, new factory Recaro seats. These were not cheap and I'm not giving them away in this sale. There probably aren't many 2012 ZL1's with Recaros, as evidenced by the GM engineers having to write a software program to operate the seat heaters when I had them programmed at the dealer. Everything works perfectly on this car. Mileage is just under 8,000. It has been a long hauler on Hot Rod Power Tour 2014 and that is where I racked up a bunch of the miles. It has been on the track four times: VIR Long Course, VIR Grand Course, Summit Point Main(2x). I am a novice, so believe me I wasn't pushing this car anywhere near it's limits or potential. It has never been drag raced. Brake pads have been replaced, but I have the OEM pads to go with the car and they have around 1500 miles on them. Brake fluid is Motul600 DOT4. Break in period was followed closely and the car has been well maintained. Oil was just changed before I put it in storage in December as well as rear differential fluid. I have all the original documentation from day one of this car's life. Invoice, build sheet, ZL1 welcome letter, etc. Bumper to bumper warranty still valid through May 2015. Never any problems with anything on this car ever. Supercharger is fine and quiet. I will be losing money on this sale, but that isn't the point. If I can swing a deal on a Z/28, it'll all be worth it. PM here first and I'll send you my phone number if you want to discuss. If I come to my senses and decide to keep it, I'll edit this post. $47.5K.

Don't do it Dan.....you'll be back for the ZL1....
On a side note if those are your OEM tires then I would agree with your statements of the car not being driven hard.

I have the new Michelins because they are my street tires. I have an extra set of wheels with my OEM tires which still have 6/32 on them. Sorry I wasn't posting that originally because the extra set of wheels and tires do not come with the car.
This car is adult owned. Never abused and meticulously maintained. My guess is, once I have the Z/28 for a while I may graduate to a ZO6. Life's too short to not (try and) drive all the cars you desire...

well, that's different. I had noticed several people selling the Z/28 as opposed to buying. for what it's worth ( since I am ALWAYS searching lots ) starling chevrolet has three black Z/28's all 6 or 7k off MSRP - under 70k. people say the 2014's sold out but I see them on many lots - new and unsold.

I was at a dealer in Daytona Beach last weekend. They also had 3 brand new 2015 Z/28's! I had to stop and ask why they had three and why they were outside and not covered!!! Just sitting there next to SS Camaro's. Crazy.
The salesmen told me that they have sold 4 2014 Z/28's. Three of them were returned within a month and a half. The reason? People can't tame these cars on the street. Sounds like track or nothing. I was a little surprised but after thinking about it, not really. I'd rather a ZL-1 or custom plans on my 1LE. Made me feel even better about my car! Good luck with your search. I don't think it should be hard to find someone based on the above, but be 100% sure it's what you want! |

OP, Good luck with the sale and potential purchase of a Z/28.
Maybe not.... Not all former ZL1 owners that now own a Z/28 are going back to the ZL1. I'm a former ZL1 owner and I'm not considering going back to a ZL1. The ZL1 is a great car but I like my Z/28 better.

BTW, the Z/28 can be easily driven on the street regularly as long as the driver understands its characteristics.

I have a 1LE and would love to upgrade to a Z/28 someday I'm just not sure if I want to give up a decent sounding stereo, head up display, mylink, and the homelink system.

My thought... People with money are going to go to the dealership and buy a Camaro with the highest sticker price without knowing what they are buying. I highly doubt the one's that bought a Z28 and returned it are C5 members. It makes sense that a true 'car guy/gal' knows what they want when it comes to American Muscle. |

Well, the ZL1 has been broken out of storage and just today I started hearing the dreaded death rattle in the supercharger snout. I was hoping against hope that this day would not come, but at least I can stop worrying about it and--at 8100 miles--get the isolator replaced and move on.
So, the car is no longer for sale. For now, I'm going to enjoy it and when the warranty runs out, I'll start the performance mods. Thanks for the (few) replies here. I actually had zero interest in purchasing, so I'm obviously priced over the market. No reason to let it go just to scratch the Z/28 itch. Someday in the future, hopefully I'll get the opportunity. It goes under the knife at the dealership next week. Then it's back to having fun...
