Remote Start System Installation – Need Assistance

Has anyone installed the Remote Start System on their 2010 Camaro? I have a 1LT that does not have a remote start, and I’m looking for help in finding installation instructions for this system.

I ordered and received the “Remote Starting System” (Part # 92213216) from gmpartsdirect.com which is described as:
DESCRIPTION: Remote Starting System

2010 Camaro Remote Starting System, Factory-Enabled

Remote starting allows you to start your Camaro to let it heat up on a cold morning or cool down with air conditioning on a hot day.

2-way technology and a convenient display screen shows the vehicles current status (locked or remote-start engaged, for instance) and critical vehicle data, including tire air pressure, fuel level, odometer and theft alarm status. This fob offers greater operating range then the factory keyless entry system, and can control a second, ARSS-equipped vehicle.

Remote start package does not include remote key fob.

Below is a picture of what I received:

The only information that came with these parts has an Authorization Code and instructions that say “Instructions for installation of this part are available through GM Service Information (S.I.) within the “Accessories Manual” section specific to the vehicle for which you purchased the accessory.”

Not being able to access the “Accessories Manual” I gather that this harness runs from a control module in the dash to an antenna located by the rear view mirror. The black case above can be seen next to the rear view mirror in a picture found on the web.

Underneath this black cover I think is an antenna which I need to order and can not find the part number. I found this picture below under electrical, then Keyless entry components on gmpartsdirect.com which I think shows the antenna.

1 is described as “Receiver” and 2 is “Receiver Cover”.

I am looking for installation instructions and an antenna part number. I will need to eventually buy a key fob and have it synced to my camaro. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll see what I can find tomorrow. I'll check back in to see if anybody finds anything in the meantime. But, if not, I'll see what I can dig up.

Now for the real kicker. The actual Remote Start module is already installed in the vehicle. It is in the dashboard! The Remote Start (P/N: 92213216) 'module' that I purchased is actually an extension wire harness and a plastic case for the module in the dashboard. These are needed to move the actual module from the dashboard to the top of the windshield, just right of the rear view mirror. The Tech told me that the module needs to be moved to extend the range of the transmitter. So you are paying $115.00 for a little wire harness, a small plastic case and four tye wraps.

Thanks a lot Darth, just what I was looking for! I'll work on this in the next couple weeks and see if I can add this myself. Found the "SIR Disabling and Enabling" at:

Once again thanks for the link.

no problemo... glad I can help.

It looks like a pain in the ass so good luck with it. It might not be so bad once you get to doing it but, just from glancing over the instructions, I would be hard pressed to try it myself.

Quick question, does the new wiring harness just extend the module to the top of the windshield or is there additional connections in it that are needed to help enable the remote start. If you don;t move the module will it still work but at a reduced distance, My car is usally parked no farther than 10'-20' away when I want to remote start it, do you think it would still work at that distance?

bump for members thinking about doing this with the onset of cold temps. Might be a good idea for those using their Camaro and not storing it for Winter.

The install actually dosn't look that bad, but I'm confused about what happens after the remote start is relocated. So I go to my dealer and order a key FOB with a remote start button, then what? Do I have to have program uploaded or will it automatically work?
