My son lost all of our Jeep keys. How do I replace?

We are the original owners so can we go to the dealer we bought it from and have them ordered to fit or am I going to have to call a locksmith?

Did you buy it new? If so, do you still have the code tags that came with the keys?

We did buy it brand new back in 2002 as a 2003 model.

Not sure if I have the code tags. Where would I find them?

With that age of car you may be able to call the dealer with the vin and have them cut you a new set. Some ask you to bring prove of ownership if they don't know you.

If it's like GM, they have a look up system. You just need
to give them ID and proof of ownership and they can cut
them for you. Just call your dealer to find out. Also check
with them to see if they need to be coded. Otherwise you'll
get in and turn the ignition over and it won't start

The tags were the little bar code tags that would have been on the key ring from the dealer. You could also look in the owners manual packet that came from the dealer. Sometimes they take them off the ring and put them in the packet.
A lot of people probably throw them out because They don't think they are important.

And if they are like our 04 wrangler keys, they need to have the chip coded in them and usually run about $100 a piece. But at least the dealer can do it all right there on the spot for you.

I don't think it had a coded thing. I think I remember having one cut at a Lowes.

That would be me. I mean, what are the chances I lose both sets right?

I don't think these were. But I'm not 100% positive.

OMG, it caused the biggest pain in the ass this weekend.

I had Bonnies Vette jacked up with the wheel well out and the fuel door mechanism taken apart, my car is still on jackstands waiting on my Fogelines and then James loses the Jeep keys. I had to put Bonnies car back together to drive it to get a spring. Then James lost the little plastic pin that holds the fuel door. A little tiny plastic piece that is only sold in the whole assembly.

But Becky and Maureen got me a good price on the new assembly.

NOW, my wheels will be here at the end of this week so in order to get them home, I need the Jeep.

Ok. Called the dealer I bought it from. They want the title or other proof I own it. The VIN# and 14 dollars to cut me 2 keys.

He said if I had the grey headed keys (ours are black) then he'd have to have the vehicle and 170.00 to cut ONE key. lol

THAT would suck. I'd have to tow it.

What kind of Jeep do you have? Sounds like you caught a lucky break. My parents had an 01 Grand Cherokee. That had grey headed keys.
