T-Tops??

What's going on with the production of making T-Tops for the 5th Gen. I've seen the forum in the past about some body shop in Cali building one but never seen the final outcome or a tend of ppl doing it. So I wondered whats happened to the T-Tops?????

Even though I have (and LOVE) them on my '98, I don't know if I'd want them on a 5th gen.
IMO, the car would look off with them, but I'm anxious to see how well that body shop pulls off the custom T-tops they're working on.

T-Tops are junk. I had them on a 1979 Z-28. They leaked and the car did'nt feel solid with them, sometimes you could kinda get a feeling of the cars body flex. And also you have to worry about some ahole breaking into the car to steal them.

I think on older cars they were probably an issue at times. I had a 86 TA and only had issues if the car didnt sit level. I also has a 01 TA and never had an issue.

That, sir, is a design issue with the car. Not an issue with the t-tops. 4th gens, for example, were designed to have t-tops. If you have a hardtop you simply have a thin sheet metal skin over the t-bar and not a lot more rigidity. Similarly, all C6 (maybe C5 as well, not sure) corvettes are based on the convertible and don't rely on the roof to retain structural integrity, though it may still help a bit. I could be wrong but I would imagine t-tops were a bit of an afterthought on 2nd gens, hence the issues.

For the guys that don't like the t-tops. I think would be nice most definitely if they could make tops similar to the tops that are in the corvettes. My father has 2008 Z-57 and love they way his top locks in place with the clamps under the visors and the hole in the rear (the pic shows the hole i'm speaking of it rite under my father hand). I think it would be a nice addition to the 5th Gen to add them. But make them sturdy like the tops in the corvettes. The T-Tops add on will make mustangs lover stomach turn when see us fly by with the T-Tops open loving life!! Lol

Sorry atlang3lo....that is a targa top, not t-tops.

I never had a problem with the t-tops in my '82 Monte....

People have to remember to take care of the seals if you don't want them to leak.

I still say they are safer in a roll-over because you have to reinforce that roof piece between the windshield and the rest of the roof.

Anyway....they should definitely be an option....it would be a much better option than Ford's glass roof on the 'Stangs.....

Had T-Tops on my 2001 Camaro SS.... never had a problem. But, then again I didn't take them out very often, pain in the butt. On the 5th Gen... no way. Leave the T-Tops in the past!!!

Well, I got the sunroof, but would have preferred T-Tops, if they had them. I had T-Tops on my '82 Camaro and never had an issue. Well, 1 issue, but it was MY fault! Forgot to lock one of the handles one day and the top flew off on the road and broke into a million pieces in front of the car behind me. Oops!

I don't think T-Tops would look good on the C5 Camaro however I do believe Corvette-like targa tops would look cool. I had T-tops in my 84 and 89 Camaros and had no issues with them but I think T-tops went out back in the 80s. JMO
