So there you are.....
At home, and your dealer calls you and says your vehicle is rolling off the truck now, and you can come in and start your paper work.
You get there, and the war that had been battled for over 100 years has begun..... PRICE HAGGELING....(spelling?) Both cars I've had my parents do all the dirty work, I was normally outside drooling over my car while my father did all the dirty work. Now I need advice from you "experienced" people who have haggeled (microsoft word cant even help me with this word) a price on a vehicle. I know a dealer is trying to make bread, but I want the best price on the car. How can I sway him in a lower price without pissing in his Cheerios. How should I start? What game plan should I come in with? Should I start with 5,000 below sticker? Or start with a "I'm not paying Tax, Tag and Title"? Any advice would be helpful, as I said before, this will be the first vehicle I am buying without any help, and I dont want to be hamstringed. |

You are probably not going to be able to haggle on the Camaro much if any. They will be able to easily sell to the next guy. All we can hope for right now is perhaps there will be some incentives such as customer cash when our cars arrive.
Start saving your pennies and if you want to haggle on a car go for a Cobalt SS or HHR or something else less popular than the Camaro.

I'm confused. If the dealer calls you and tell you that your vehicle is rolling off the truck, wouldnt you have already put down a deposit and signed a contract with the pricing arrangement?

yeah, good luck haggling on a car that you ORDERED and agreed to pay MSRP on. not to mention, they probably have other people waiting for their cars that would be happy to take it off your hands.

My order went in 10/13, no deposit, and no firm pricing but we did discuss it. I was concerned about getting hosed when the car comes in but they promised me they would not do that. If they try that, I will walk, and re-order from another dealer. I do know some of the owners family so I guess I could try to get them involved if it comes to that but fundamentaly, If I can't trust them, I don't want to buy from them anyway. I wanted to have their dealer emblem on the back as we are socialy aquainted but I ain't gonna pay extra to get it. No biggie. I have other cars to drive while I wait for a better deal. PLENTY of other dealers will want to sell me a Camaro at sticker (or better). -Mark. |

It would make me nervous not having some kind of contract. I have a contract saying they will guarantee GMS pricing if offered by gm, or $100 below MSRP.

I doubt you'd get $5k below sticker...you can always try, but I doubt they'll be willing to negotiate much.
We've never had to do this...just walked into the dealer, point at a car to test drive, figure out GMS pricing/GM card discounts, sign and drive off.

EDIT: I went with $500 down and signed/received pre-order paperwork but it did not state pricing. Probably because the $ of the options I want added have not been released yet. |

Wish I could say that. I'm going with all the performance options (CAI, Catback, Shorties, and STS) so they're going to get plenty extra from me. :(

Kinda funny.
I went to the Mark Dodge here in Mobile AL about 7 months ago to look at the new Challenger. Talked to a salesman who informed me of the price, 52k. They wanted better than 10k over sticker for the SRT8. I told him of course that I was waiting on the Camaro. After spending a minute or two telling me how much more of a car the Chally was than the Camaro, I informed him I would never pay over sticker for ANYTHING. Well, he said, It may be years before the Chally comes down and the Camaro would be the same way (10k over sticker) then what are you going to do? I said I geuss I'll buy a Beamer. (joking of course) Yesterday I got a message on my business phone, and my cell phone (I must have left him my card) He simply introduced himself as Brian from Mark Dodge and the SRT8 I was interested in is "At sticker price and willing to deal and 48 months no interest if I qualify". Moral of the story, "Sooner or later, EVERYTHING is negotiable". Feel for those that bought at the time. |

If you are serious about getting one. you should put an order in and guarantee yourself one. with paperwork signed when you fill out the order form.
if you have put in an order, it should have the prices of everything listed.

The dealer I went to asked for a $500 deposit and that's it. No contract signing or anything. All I have from them is a verbal agreement that whatever discounts or deals are available and I qualify for at the time, they will give me. I guess at this point, it really just depends on the dealer.
