You do not have to have them but you run the chance of the exhaust tips heating up the diffuser causing it to warp. I ordered my kit complete from Maureen from Rodgers Chevrolet for the mounting hardware, rear diffuser, and heat shields.

Ah, so the heat shields are to protect the diffuser? Does the exhaust touch the diffuser? Is the exhaust closer to that diffuser than it is for the stock one?

I have a quote request in with Becky from Rodgers now so I know she will get me the correct needed parts.

Heat shields arent necessary. I want them for looks only and will get them eventually.

My 4" tips are only a hair or two away from the diffuser and havent melted or warped it at all. This is even after a road trip from New orleans to Indy for C5 fest, and 10 passes in the 1/4 mile. Absolutley no melting or warping.

Hell, my old OEM diffuser that I cut out with a dremel to fit my 4" quad tips was basically toucing the tips in one spot and never melted. Double walled tips dont get as hot.

Just ordered my diffuser kit thanks to SinisSick!

Here is a link to get the quad ZL1 style tips: http://tips.byethost4.com/dualindividual.html

Was it a very big deal for the exhaust shop to weld the tips on??

Depends what your existing exhaust is, because they have to change the spacing/angle of the tips.

My shop charged 75 per side or something like that
