If your oil pressure pegged out at max, it's most likely the oil pressure sensor.

Doing it with key on engine off? Then prob sensor.. If while running I would be careful. The pressure valves stuck and it could be stuck closed.

Were you working on the car recently? The oil pressure sensor sits right behind the intake manifold and breaks very easily. If you have access to a data logger you can check to see if it's just a broken gauge pretty easy.

Yup, a broken connection or failed pressure sensor causes a max reading, not a zero reading.

Yeah.. looks like either the gauge went or the sensor then.. would be looking at the sensor first.

Not sure what you mean? How it broke or how to ck? If you are are unsure you may want to take to your local technician.

Reach around the back of the intake manifold on the drivers side with your hand and feel around for oil.

If you feel oil the sensor is cracked and needs to be replaced.

You can get an OPSU(oil press sending unit) socket at any parts store.

Plug the scan tool in the OBD2 port, start the car and you'll see on your phone what the oil pressure shows. If normal then it's the guage. If high then it's the sensor

It could be the sensor, but also it could be a damaged wire. The last time this happened to me (on a GMC truck) all that was needed was repair of damaged insulation on a wire.

Easier said than done on the Camaro. The truck's engine bay was big enough that I could basically get inside and see the entire engine wire harness.
