Exclamation What causes a cylinder 5 misfire

My cel came on, went to autozone they diagnosed it as a cylinder 5 misfire. Also did an onstar diagnostics..they said multiple misfires what can cause this? How can it be fixed?? My car was in the shop for 4 months while I was deployed. Now I come back to this can it be fuel injectors or something? Help! I want to enjoy her lol

Make sure plugs aren't cracked and that the plug wire is fully engaged in both ends (clicking into place)

Happened to me before

At what RPMs did the misfire happen?

You dont really feel a misfire but around 2,000 rpms when you try to do a hard acceleration it'll kinda..well..it just won't pick up like before..and my wires seem fine there in properly. I hope it's nothing serious :(

The reason i asked it sounds similar to what i had. when they ran the code it should have told them at what rpms the misfire happened. mine would misfire at about 3000 rpms on the 3rd cylinder. it was not misfiring under 3000 so it was very hard to diagnose. dealer had mine for 2 days tyring to figure it out, even gave it back to me 2 times thinking they fixed it. what finally fixed it was we switched the coils around....so im thinking bad connection maybe... they did put some updates on the computer and one updated rerouted the wiring harness. So not 100% sure what fixed it but that was 10,000 miles ago and all good.

On a different car, not my Camaro, but I had misfire cylinder #3 on the diagnostic tool. Turns out the end of the spark plug that meets up with the wire harness came undone, like it wasn't screwed in all the way, which I never knew it could do (autolite spark plug). I changed out all the plugs to Bosch and it has been fine since.

Spark plugs are cheap, easy place to start.

misfire? a plug misfire or an injector misfire? Code would me most helpful. Setting for a little bit may be the key - fully charge the battery, run injector cleaner through it, and if it is still there let the dealer figure it out - cheapest in the long run instead of chasing parts.

I'd take it to the dealer. Many possible causes from simple to ... needs a new motor. Only way to tell will be to have a technician diagnose it.

A friend of mine went through some misfire problems with an LLT. One dealer farted around with it trying top engine cleaning, a few other things... then another dealer fixed it right by - replacing the engine. Really no way to know until a skilled technician looks at it. There are several bulletins for things to look for ... from minor to order a new engine.

Do you happen to know the TSB to reference for this? I experienced a rough idle/CEL this morning that I believe is related to the weather. A phone call to the service tech resulted with nothing.

If I have a TSB # to give him (and the document number #2542524 referenced in another thread was not a legit TSB number, at least to him) It would greatly help my case.

The strangest thing happened.... my CEL light turned off before the shop could look at it. Guess I'll have to wait for it to happen again, IF it happens again.

I had the codes read at Autozone. Random misfires, Misfire in Cyl 01,04,06. Only happened once after letting it sit for a few days when we got a bunch of snow.
