When GM redesigned the SBC into the LT and now the LS engines they had the chance to go with a DOHC engine, but they chose not to. Now they see what the newly designed LS engine can do, why go backwards? I would rather see a TT V8, maybe an aluminum block 4.8 or 5.3TT with direct fuel injection.

Oh, let's see...

Rev-ability

More power/cu. in., affording eventual smaller engines with equal power and better mpgs

More ECM versatility/tunability, leading to:

Lower Emissions, and...

Better Fuel Economy

Other than that, no real reason...

The bugaboo with "boost" is, when you create those extra horses and "exercise" 'em, they eat a LOT of "hay"...in the REAL world. Ask an owner of an Eco-Boost Ford pickup what they REALLY get for mpgs...

DI will be present in the soon-to-come Gen-5 SBC. In fact by '16, I doubt anyone will have a non-DI engine.

I doubt the 302 would be revived but I wonder why the 5.7L isn't being produced.

Buddy of mine has one. Gets around 17 in town and 23 on the highway. pretty much exactly what its supposed to get. BUT, when he drives it hard or is towing he said the mileage does suffer

I can remember back in 1999 or so our Camaro club was invited to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix to show our cars. It was the first time they allowed American Muscle Cars at the show. Scott/fbodfather brought some vintage Chevies to the show and it is where I met him for the first time. I don't know if he remembers or not, but I had my original '69 Z/28 there. Scott was so intense on discussing the 302 etc at the time. I fired it up for him and as it sat there loping at an idle through the chambered exhaust I swear he was in tears. Needless to say I'm sure he (and the Camaro team) still has the passion for a high reving small block Z/28. In fact he told me at the time that GM had taken a '90s camaro that had been damaged underneath, built a one off 302 and rebuilt the car. I don't know whatever happened to that Camaro, but rest assured I beleive we will have what we want in the next iteration of the Z/28.... it may not be a 302, but I beleive it will be a NA high reving small block of whatever displacement. Keep the faith and save your money!

Even an LS3 part#19259233 for a limited run of last year 5th gen Z28s would be balisstic:
525 HP @ 6300 rpm
489 LB-FT @ 4400 rpm

Just because the current engines are based on 5.3 and 6.2 doesn't mean that GM will stick with that. It was that long ago GM motor displacement center around 5.0 (305) and 5.7 (350). You have to remember they need to get better fuel economy. We've been told yes to DI and currently no overhead cam for the next gen engines, but there hasn't been anything released about displacement. GM can drop the displacement and still keep the horse power numbers up with the addition of DI. I can see a 5.0 or 5.3 putting out 425hp. All we know for sure is that the corvette race time is trying out a 5.5L DI race engine in there cars. I thing that's been going on for about a year now.

I think it would be cool if they gave the camaro engine/hp options. I know they have the v6 and v8 now the zl1 which is supercharged but back in the day they sometimes had 4 different v8s to choose from all with different horsepower. It would set certain camaros apart and I would think be very cool.
