Need to remove Heat Shield with Borla Cat-back?
Greetings fellow V6ers,
I was rear-ended recently and the Camaro is in the shop getting a lot of work done. The exhaust assembly had to be replaced and insurance let me throw on a Borla cat-back instead of OEM. That being said, the shop tells me it's almost done, they're now just sourcing an exhaust rattle found on test drive giving the all clear. I suggested that they check the heat shield first since those are notorious rattle-causers, but a shop manager replied that there is no heat shield anymore due to the custom exhaust. 1. Is it normal to remove the heat shield with a full aftermarket exhaust like the Borla cat-back? 2. If it's not normal, is it safe? Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, you shouldn't have to remove anything with a catback made specifically for the car

Need to remove Heat Shield with Borla Cat-back?
There is no need to remove anything if installed properly. Why the hell they'd remove them, especially with out checking with you 1st is beyond me.
Anyway the usual cause of rattle is the tunnel brace, not the heat shield. Sent from my AGM, 2SS/RS |

I think he might have meant the heat shield that is on the OEM exhaust, The keeps the car from setting leaves on fire if you park over them. Not between the exhaust and the body. I have the Borla Cat back and Love it. Happy New Year.

Thanks for the responses fellas. Turns out some miscommunication from the shop Manager. I was under the impression from them that the heat shield above the exhaust was removed (between the Camaro body & exhaust pipes) and not replaced. I could care less about any shield between the pipes and the road. I just didn't want my feet melting through the floor.
It's all good now though, picked her up and the Borla sounds AMAZING!
