I hate that feature, the bulbs always blow fast, they never work right, sometimes they get stuck on.

My Vette it was dead the day I got it, I never fixed it...

Get the led flashlight, they are good for 100,000 hrs supposebly.

I imagine that if it was important to have, would be real simple to put a switch
and light(s) under the hood.

For me hood lights have never been enough and have used flashlights or halogens on a stand to see in limited visibility situations.

I think they stopped putting them in. My 2004 sierra doesnt have one. Its all about cost cutting.

Older (~1988-1997) GM full size pickups had a 12v drop light stored under the hood with a long enough cable to look at any part of the truck with it. Maybe you could transplant that...
