LFX V6 is a Jewel

Just drove a LFX powered 2012 SRX. It totally transforms the SRX vs. the 3.0L. But I wanted to add some comments that might be relative to the 2012 Camaro LFX.
With the block stiffening and lighter weight connecting rods the engine is as smooth as glass and willing to rev. It does so so smoothly that you are not aware that it is at 5000rpms or above.
It is quieter at idle and at high rpms because of the above + the quieter DI.
It has a very expensive feel to it like a Porsche flat 6 or other high end 60 degree V6.
There are 0 vibrations or buzzes.
In the SRX it has almost a V8 quality to it because peak tq is at 2400rpms.
in the Camaro it will probably pull a little higher in the rev band because the tq peak is higher.
I think GM has a real winner here and it does not have any of the issues the Nissan 3.7 has.
Your are also going to notice how clean the engine bay is. Obviously headers are out now, but you do get a 20lb lighter motor that wants to spin to redline.

And the sound it makes from inside the cabin is awesome.

Should add that this is the 308hp version of the LFX. It has tuned exhaust pipes and peak tq is 265lbft at about 2000 rpms lower than the Camaro's LFX.
SRX weighs 4300lbs so it is a good 500lbs heavier than the Camaro.
It should feel like more than the 9 extra hp it is rated at in the Camaro due to the way it revs.

Still has integrated headers. I'll stick with my LLT and after market headers.

Regardless of it's modability if someone test drives the Mustang with the 3.7L and the Camaro with the new LFX 3.6L I think they will see a marked difference in smoothness.

Don't read too much into the specific rpms when these engines make peak torque.

For the LLT in the Camaro, it probably makes within about 15 lb-ft of its max torque from 2500 rpm up to 6000. So the LLT has pretty much the same low end torque that the SRX has, it just doesn't fall off as much in the top end.

I'm sure you are right, but the LFX really moves the SRX well. I would say that the SRX is now undersuspended compared to the power of the engine, much in the same way the GTO could have used a stiffer suspension to handle 400hp.

They just need to give us a FE4 V6 Camaro. Although it would probably outhandle the SS.

Thanks for the review!

Just curious...but have you spent much time behind the wheel of an LLT powered Camaro? I don't have much to compare to, but it sure seems like my LLT has no problem reving and while the peak TQ is a bit higher in the RPM range, as DGthe3 pointed out, it has a very flat TQ curve so I don't see power as a big difference.

But I'd be happy as heck if the new LFX performed measurably better than the LLT does...but hey...thats what modding is all about right? Keeping it fun lol.

I spent about 20 minutes in #272(IIRC)a V6 in April 2009. It was a GM owned vehicle that had been sent down for a car show and was about to picked up by a truck to be sent back to GM.
I was not overwhelmed by the power. But I've had a lot of experiences in 3.6L CTSs.
The 3.0L is a faster revver and since the new 3.6L is basicallythe same engine now and with lighter weight connectiing rods and additional strengthening to the block, it revs a little more quickly, smoothly and more quietly.
it is not the like the Nissan 3.7L that you don't want to take to the rev line because it is harsh.
It think everyone will be impressed with the LFX. Whether or not the 9hp makes a difference to you is debatable but as far as the quality of the drivetrain, it is top notch.

Plus you really cant compare a cadillac vs a 2 door sport coupe. although it will be the same engine the caddy was designed to be quiet and smooth. This has nothing to do with the engine itself but more to do making the caddy more soundproof than the actual camaro.

Just test drive the caddy LLT and camaro LLT. You will think the same.

I have driven both LLTs.
For 2012 the LFX will be a quieter engine regardless of what car it is installed in.

Each head only has 1 large exhaust port rather than a smaller exhaust port for each cylinder.
