1LE vs Boosted Lotus

So I have a 1LE with a k&n intake, but otherwise stock. This other guy has a Lotus Elise with a supercharger. I hear it makes about 230hp, I'm guessing that's at the flywheel.

My guess is that he'll have me 0-60, but I would pull away over that. I guess it's about even in the corners.

What do you guys think? Anybody ever race a lotus?

I was the chief driving instructor for the Great Lakes lotus club so I have driven my share. For your sake keep the race in a straight line and it will be very close. They are wicked light on their feet so even though we can corner that is what the lotus does best.

If it's factory super charged it should be around 217hp (according to theCarconnection.com) I guess a pulley swap could jump it up to 230hp pretty easily. Factory (US) N/A cars were 189hp.

First arriving as a mid-cycle second-generation, or Series 2, model, the Elise hit the U.S. market in 2005. Known internally as the 111R, or Federal Elise, the car was powered by a mid-mounted, Toyota-supplied, but Lotus-modified 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 189 horsepower. Despite the relatively diminutive power output, the Elise's scant 1,987-pound curb weight enabled brisk acceleration; 60 mph arrived from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds. A six-speed manual gearbox by Lotus handled gear changes.

For the 2007 model year, the Elise gained small bumpers to help meet U.S. safety regulations, and in 2008, a supercharged Elise SC model was introduced. The Elise SC used the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder 2ZZ Toyota engine, but with the addition of a Magnuson supercharger, increasing output to 217 horsepower and cutting 0-60 mph times to just 4.4 seconds. The Elise SC's top speed was 150 mph

I guess he bought the non supercharged version and put one on. That's definitely quick. My best 0-60 is 4.6.

In a drag race you should be good. But once the turns start, 1LE or not the Elise is one of the best handling cars in the world.

The Lotus Elise never came with a supercharger. (N/A Toyota motor) The Lotus Exige was the supercharged version of the Elise which was a tad heavier (with more power). Enthusiast put supercharges on the Elise as it is lighter and then faster than the Exige.

The Exige will run a 3.9 0-60, but that is with an abusive clutch dump. The supercharged Elise should be every bit as fast......But it takes a good abusive driver to get it to launch that fast.

Straight line it could/should be close..

False. Lotus introduced a supercharged version of the Elise called the Elise SC in 2008. Two of my track buddies own them.

Hmmm interesting. He does have some experience (I basically have none). I guess I will need to practice and make sure we keep it in a straight line.

2,000 pound true sports car vs 3800 pound sports coupe. Its basically a street legal go kart, you shouldn't feel bad about losing around a track. Straight line I think you will edge it out.

Well I own a Lotus Exige so here is my opinion. He will get you off the line if he knows how to drive. These cars are extremely quick because of their lightweight and rear weight bias which makes them easier to launch. However, you should get them on the upper end. I would do a 60mph roll on.

In the corners? Don't even try. In fact, even heavily modded Camaros will have a hard time with a stock one. These cars completely stock are absolute beasts. They are carrying half your weight. I've seen stock Exige pull 1.3gs before. The Elise aren't far away.
