there is something to be said for having an old junker that you really don't care about. I myself had quite a bit of fun getting some driving experience in some old escorts that didn't really matter much to me.

I have an SS and my insurance is a state minimum it cost me around $40 a month!
liability wouldn't change much for V6 or V8.

If you want a Camaro I would suggest getting a 4th gen. Either a V6 or Z28. Drive it a few years then trade it for a new Camaro. 4th gens, especially the 3.8v6 models are good cars that get excellent gas mileage and are very reasonably priced right now. Check on it.

lol. so now if you get in an accident you'll get sued personally when the claim exceeds the pitiful coverage amounts for the state minimum. brilliant

Everyone wants to test their cars limit, so be smart and start with the V6 until your ready and proven to move upto an SS.
yah the little V6 that does 155 mph , what kind of advice is that? Its the Insurance

I am 17, and I drive a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. I am trading it in to get a 2013 2LT/RS camaro in the near future (really near). I called the insurance company, and believe it or not, they told me that I would actually pay $5-10 a month LESS on the camaro than I would for my truck. So for everyone saying that insurance will be killer for a v6 also, its not necessarily true. Insurance for a male under 25 is about as worse as it can get already, assuming you have a clear record.

yea, the car doesn't really matter at that point. a newer or more expensive car will cost you more on the collision/comprehensive side. but for liability, your going to pay the highest rate regardless of what type of vehicle it is. one of the real downsides though is, many insurance companies won't offer you as much insurance when your young. a lot of companies won't offer more than 150k per accident, 50k property damage. that may sound like a lot, but if you get into a multiple vehicle accident and there are medical bills involved you can eat that up pretty fast.

If your set on a 5th gen Camaro, I would say go with the 2LT. I will exsplain why. Plain and simple, Its the money. The 2LT will cost you less to buy, will be less to insure and a lot less in fuel cost. The 2LT will get much better gas mileage and you get to put cheaper regular gas in the car. The V6 is by no means a slotch. With 315+ HP, you will have more power then most of the older V8's out there. Add in an RS package on the V6 will also get you better headlights and the SS rims. Adding a body kit with a front spoiler to it will take car of the one thing that I don't like about the cosmetic appearance compared to the SS. I don't like the lower part of the front facia of the V6.

Wait at least until your 20's. I'm 22 going on 23 next month.

My first car was a 1999 volvo stationwagon with 200,000KM... yeah, try picking up the ladies with that thing. BUT, i did beat the hell out of it. there's something to be said for a car you just don't care about. the stress of seeing even the littlest scratch on the Camaro is quite different.
