Friend wants a Challenger. How do I change his mind? ;)

My buddy wants to trade in his Altima for a Challenger. So thumbs up to him for wanting an American car. He's on a budget, so he needs a V6 model, but he wants a manual tranny. He claims the Challenger m6 only comes in a R/T

So I suggested the 1LT. I told him is cheaper than a Challenger and probably quicker (v6). What else could I tell him?

I like the Challenger myself. Why change his mind? He should get what he wants, help him find that.

I couldn't agree more. If your a real friend you'll support your buddy and not try to make him want something just because you like it.

Challenger is a fine car, if they had not made the Camaro I would have bought a Challenger. Friends don't let friends drive Mustangs.

OP doesn't have a Camaro to let friend drive from his info, he's driving a Toyota and wants his friend to buy a Camaro.
Um - I'd just let my friend buy his Challenger and be satisfied if he took me for a ride in it.

I would just ask for a ride in a sweet looking car. Win for everyone.

Only way I would say that it would be appropriate to vouch for one car over another is to first figure out the reasons they do like the car and what elements went into that decision.

If their choice is only based on quantitative things like price, performance, and so on...you might have a case. Then best suggestion I could make is to encourage your friend to take enough time to really do the research and find exactly what he wants.

Support him by showing him different aftermarket companies for the car he is interested in, and some already customized rides and see if there is a look he wants to go for or just remain stock.

Then, once you've built that trust to show you're wanting to find him the best option for him and not just what you think he should get, you might find some camaro's which have been modified in a similar manner to what he's looking for and show them to him and see what he thinks. Find some similar aftermarket or stylistic elements and compare prices and availability, but don't push it too much.

That way, he can appreciate your other options outside what he was looking for, and you can still feel like you contributed to helping him make his decision. Even if he doesn't go camaro, your friendship will be even stronger and everyone will be happy. ^_^

Going through the same issue with the girlfriend right now. She's dead set on getting an RT when I already have my SS. Currently she has a truck and I'd like to see her stay in something that has some utility and better fuel economy. To each their own though if she's willing to pay the lease/monthly payments its her money at this point. Good thing is that I get to do more test drives.

As long as your friend is ditching the Altima that's already a huge step in the right direction.
