Onstar won't upgrade the hardware in my 2010 cause it was not active in 2015 without paying a $350 fee. Total BS I see I'm a valued GM customer, NOT.

In Canada were making a major up-grade to are cell system and soon it will not be compatable, is my understanding. Plus it makes the car wifi compatable as well I believe.

I have a Iphone 6 so I'm good, just wanted to keep Pumpkin current.

Yeah you have to get a minimum of a one year subscription to Onstar in order for them to do the upgrade. Seems to make no sense to me, but since I am paying for Onstar and wanting to keep it, it made no big deal to me.

But you are right in that they should change it over without having to buy a year worth of Onstar in that at least your car is up to date IF you ever go to sell it.

they did my Camaro a couple weeks ago , I suspend it during the time it is in storage .I did not have to prepay for a year as they originally wanted . my wifes car is just waiting for them to get the parts to upgrade it . she loves it in her car as she uses it alot .

They did the upgrade on my car at no cost to me, and I only used the 3 month trial subscription that came with the car when I bought it new last year. But if you don't use on-star, y do you care about the upgrade?

I had the upgrade done cuz the car is still new and if I choose to pay for the Onstar service I can do so without paying for the new hardware which will be required in Canada come probably 2016

Currently in Canada the Onstar system uses 2G cell phone technology. Starting next year, the government is dismantling the system since it is old and only used by very few companies. Any vehicle that was made prior to this year with Onstar in it uses the 2G technology. GM is upgrading the onstar systems in vehicles to 4G so that they will be good for a while from now.

They do the upgrade for free of the actual parts, however they require us to pay for one year worth of Onstar whether that be all at once or monthly.

Has anyone got OnStar to upgrade to LTE and wifi unit in the USA for free? I tried, they wouldn't do it. Only in Canada.
