The glen is a big track so that is pretty damn fast. i always mount my go pro on my car when we do laps, and in this video i can tell you i was over 110 on the front strait, and moving pretty good the rest of the time. i took one of our laps (us v6ers really got to go all out!) and double timed it jut to get an idea of just how fast those open wheels were going. well doubling our lap puts it at 1:30...they would have done 2 laps in about 1:40....pretty wild!
I hate to be a naysayer here but there is no way anyone was lapping Watkins Glen in 52 seconds. On the long course that's an average speed of 236 mph and 166 mph on the short course. In June, the Continental Tires Series Pole time by the Z/28R was 2 minutes flat, for the Tudor Cup race, the Corvette C7Rs were lapping in about 1:45, the Prototype Pole time and speed was 1:37.9 at 125 mph and the Track Record held by an Indy Car is 1:29 (136 mph).

Repaving the boot starts in July and the rest of the track repaving will start right after the August NASCAR Race. This is fact, it is posted on WGIs website.

Brings back memories! A few years ago I did the Richard Petty Driving Experence at Daytona International Speedway. Fastest average lap speed of 8 laps was just under 150 mph. I could really feel the gforces in the corners. Add another 50+ mph and 41 other cars and that gives me a whole new respect for the NASCAR drivers!! Awesome time gotta do it again sometime.

ok naysayers...Spike was the one that timed the lead car in the group that ws running before us and here is some video of that. at the end you will her Spike say 52 seconds, he was referring to how long the lead car took to go around. yes they were probably running the short track (no boot) i never said they were running the boot.

You were sitting right next to me in the bleachers when I timed it.

Yes, but we dicided that you were not timing the same cars. Didn't it turn out that they were somewhere in the 2:20 range?

2:20 is pretty fast!

This is my best, 1st time to th Glen

Grew up in Ithaca watching Jackie Stewart F1, Lauda, Hunt, Ickx, Porsche 917, 956, 962, Andretti in Ferrari F1, Chaparral vacuum car, Mclaren canam... Finally got to put my own car on this track bucket list event. I hop they don't take all the bumps out, add character, it would be like paving Sebring turn 17 and 1.

Shane Lewis was there shaking down HSR leMans car, he was about 1:45, I plugged my GoPro on his car for a few sessions, the speed difference is insane!
