Hyundai's 35mpg Sedan
Not that I would buy one (although I like Hyundai's warranties) but I respect that Hyundai has managed a 24/35 EPA estimate for the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
As reported, the mid-sized sedan will be powered by a DI 2.4L 198hp four-banger mated to a choice of either a manual or automatic six-speed transmission. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS will start at $19,195.00 plus $720.00 for destination. I must confess, I am intrigued by the power that manufacturers are squeezing out of four cylinder motors these days. I'm betting that the next Malibu tops the Sonata's EPA estimates, not to mention features and looks! Link to the autoblog article: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/01/h...ing-at-19-915/

For a non-hybrid 4 cylinder on a larger car like that, not bad. Current malibu makes 33 mpg, so its not far off.

Whats Cruze supposed to get, 45?

love. my. car.

I know I'm not actually planning on getting a high MPG car but it's nice to see car companies, especially American ones increasing the mileage with every new model... I mean the V8 F150 gets the same MPG as my V6 truck... It's exciting. But then again, I'm planning on getting a 2SS. But really I don't feel bad about it because it only gets 1MPG worse in the city and far better highway mileage...

Cruze is smaller...same segment as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

Cruze tops out at 40 with the 1.4L Turbocharged ECOTEC I-4.
EpII Malibu will top the Sonata. I would guess 36-37 MPG with the 2.4L SIDI which already hits 32 MPG in the much bigger/heavier Equinox/Terrain.

Hyundai and Kia are both upping their game. It just means GM, Ford, and maybe Chrysler will do the same in order to stay a head.

I'd have to see how much larger than a Jetta it is (I'm sure it is larger) but I continually see around 40 mpg in my wifes I-5 Jetta. and the TDI versions push over 50mpg regularly. non-hybrid 5 cylinder...
