Doug Thorley headers question
Hey guys, I have been thinking of ordering a set of doug thorley shorty headers for my ss. Ive searched all of the forum but cannot find anyone that has a dyno for the V8. I know some of you say its a waste of money to buy shorties but I want to keep my warranty like others. If anyone has these headers that have noticed any power increase on their V8 or have a dyno sheet please post your input. Semper Fi...

I haven't seen or heard of anyone getting more than 2hp/5tq from adding a set of shorty headers. Honestly, my car had more of a swing than that in stock trim in back to back pulls on a dyno. If you set on adding shortys, I'd go with either BBK or DT.
Happy hunting

shorties isnt the way to go. most of the power that comes with longtubes comes from the high flow cats. and with shorties u keep your stock cats so u wont gain must over stock.

I would consider passing on the shorties but look into spending that money on a set of High Flow cats. I think you'll see more power from that mod than the shorties.
SOLO just came out with some, JBA I think has some, and so does Magnaflow.

Won't the high flow cats throw codes?

yes it will so you will need a tune. or get a handheld and clear the code everyday.

Not according to SOLO. They just came out with high flow cats that are not throwing a code

Testing for them right now, no codes so far with the SOLO HF cats.

Solo ran a dyno and picked up 22rwhp and 25 rwtq with just the HF cats and no tune. Should pick up more with a tune.
Not throwing any codes so they should be fine as far as warranty goes. Plus they bolt on in place of the existing stock cat mid pipes. So they are easy to swap out with stock. If necessary. |

I can't wait to see what the tune adds to these things. I think they are getting around 55 rwhp out of them on the G8 with a tune.

I would just buy the JBA Hi-Flow mids with cats. They make more RWHP than any shorty headers and they are pretty inexpensive.

I've installed DT shorty's and hi-flow cats along with a magnaflow x pipe and Diablo Predator tune, Halltech CAI and so far no codes, this with about 500 miles on the cats. No dyno numbers as yet but I will say that the SOP meter indicates a stronger mid/top end pull, especially after installing the cats. Also the exhaust note definitely changed with the cat's, much raspier with more pronounced popping on decel. While long tubes will ultimately extract more HP I'm pleased with the combo I have.
